Default help with tire pressures

Hi everyone!

Hope you all had a good Xmas

Can anyone pls help me with what tire pressures i need for my new wheels. I have a 2006 fatboy and have just changed them to 17" rev tech inferno's with Michelin Commander II 130/80 B17 65 H on the Front and Michelin Commander II 160/70 B17 73 V Rear. The tires are lower profile than the Avons and i have no clue what pressures i should have for single and pillion riding.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated

Cheers

TEH

Normally you'll run what's specified on the tire (sidewall)...look around the outer rim & find recommended PSI. If not, start w/36psi in front & 40psi in rear...

I would check the sidewall for the propper pressure. If it is not there (it should be) Then check the manufacturers website. That being said, every Harley I have owned has wanted 36 pound of pressure on the front.

Always go with the tire manufacturers specs. Harley's specs are for their Dunlop tires.

36 psi front and 40 psi rear appear to be the magic numbers for the Commander IIs

Remember what happened to Ford Explorers when Ford said it knew better than the tire manufacturer? Go with what is on the tire, or tire manufacturers web site.

I'd Never fill a tire to what it says on the side of the tire...
Usually that is the MAX pressure a tire can go, not what the Normal pressure is and could be a lot higher.
IMO, It's best to check the owners manual to be sure..

Here is what Michelin says about the new Commander II's.

(Refer to the motorcycle owner’s manual for the vehicle’s load capacity. Michelin recommends the tire pressures quoted by the vehicle manufacturer.)

This right from their web site;
http://www.michelinmotorcycle.com/pubs/fitment2012.pdf

Scroll down to the Com-II's tires.

Thinking our Heritage says 38 solo or 40 if 2up on rear and 36 in front.

Hi, the pressures you have for your bike are similar to my fatboy. The reason i asked was because the manual is for standard size wheels and avon tires. Harley say i can go up to anything in size to a max of 21" rims without aesthetic changes but doesnt quote any changes in tire pressures. The Commanders are lower profile too.
Thanks for taking the time to help me with this, much appreciated

Ride safe

+1 on that! NEVER run what is on the sidewall unless you are riding at the tires maximum capacity! Where do people get this information? Do you guys run the sidewall pressure on your cage too? I cant even count how many times I've seen this misinformation posted around here.

ALWAYS use the tire manufacturers recommended tire pressure. Harley has no idea what tires you are running, and therefore the factory specs for your bike should only be used if you are running OE brand and size tires. Most manufacturers post their recommended pressures on their website, or call their customer service line.
