Kickstand Springs
I had a fellow rider's bike in my shop (98 Softail) that the owner complained that something was wrong with his Kickstand. It would not stay up and dragged the ground after hitting a bump. Questioning him I discovered he had recently replaced the spring. Removing his spring and comparing it to a spare Harley OEM spring for an 02 Softail, his spring measured 1/2 inch longer. I replaced his spring with my spare Harley spring and the problem was solved.
Researching I found: The spring I installed was Harley Part Number 50005-85A. The package indicates this spring is for Softails. Cross-referencing this part number in JP Cycles web site, they list an aftermarket spring, JP part number 7000051, as a direct OEM replacement for the Harley spring 50005-85A. Viewing the Fitment section for this JP spring, it list various Softails 1990 - 2006, Sportsters of different years, and a select few Dyna's. JP Cycles list a different spring of the same configuration for Touring bikes and 07 and later model Softails.
I had always thought that Kick Stand springs were for the most part universal for all Harley's. Apparently not.
