Default 2003 FLSTF Mods

Hi all,

My bike is stock. I'm interested in the Cobra Speedster exhaust & Cobra PowrFlo Air Intake System. I really like the look of these items, but I'm not sure about how they match up with the bike mechanically. Also too, I presume I'll need a jet kit. Any suggestions for something simple and effective?

I'm also interested in upgrading the wheels, but I can't find a resource without the costs being upwards of 4000 for the total packages front and rear. Is this the norm?

Thanks
Nick

I would say for sure you would have to re- jet. Try calling Cobra.

Skip the wheels, get a cam and hydro cam tension plate. Best money you'll ever spend.

And yes you will need to re-jet.

I was under the impression the only genuine way to fix the cam system issues is to convert the entire cam drive system to gears?

Gear drive cams are an option, but not all engines can use them. If the crank run out (out of true) is to great then the gears won't mesh properly.

HD addressed the issue with the hydraulic cam tension.

And the reason I'm against the wheels is strictly on a cost vs bike value basis. Lets say your bike is worth 10k, putting 4.7k into wheels is not going to make you bike worth 14.7k.

I found a company that will exchange your stock wheels for the same models, but chromed. I might go that route. Just enough to dress it up a little.

The gears are stacked and I would think that once they get out of alignment with normal use, there's more trouble...like you pointed you out, thanks. The issue I have with the hydraulic option is the nylon hydraulic cam follower will still wear out. Because of that it seems logical to presume that this avenue will only prolong the inevitable.
