All of my Harleys have been carb'd. My 05 runs like a sewing machine. I've put a CV-Performance EZ Just air fuel adjustment screw on it and can easily adjust the air fuel mixture anyplace and time without needing even a screwdriver. Highly recommend one if you do a lot of riding with drastic elevation changes. It ran fine before I put it in but runs even better when I can make changes on the fly.

does a 88 twin cam with carb sound similar to an evo 80? My mates evo sounds just nice, he also has a cam upgrade.

I have a carbed 2006 Fatboy, it is a joy to work on compaired to my EFI Triglide. I have always been a fan of carbed bikes; that is one of the main reasons I bought this particular Fatboy

No, the EVO revs lower than a twin cam. Plus, he has a cam.

I'd jump all over that bike, they are getting hard to come by. Over 30k miles replace the cam chain shoes & ride it.

Question

the tc motors still have a great sound. alot deopends on the pipes being used and what your tastes are. Most can not tell the difference between the sound of an evo or a tc. especially if it is carb'd. tc88 EFI bikes seem to have a higher running rpm than tc88 carb'd bikes. If the carb is all that is holding you back or making you cautious I wouldn't worry about it. The main thing you have to worry about with a carb bike (IMO) is letting them sit to long without running them (like months not hours) and having the jets in the carb gett all clogged from dried gas. Even if that happens they are pretty easy to clean out and get running right again. Dont let the carb scare ya.I have a 06 (wifes) with efi and a 99 that i swiched from efi to carb and don't have a problem with either bike. 1 thing I would think about though is that the early TC motor that had EFI used a margetti marilli (sure I didn't spell that right) EFI system that was not nearly as good or as easy to get parts for as the later Delphi efi system that they switched to around 02. Not sure of the exact year. If I was buying a earley 88 I would get carb'd..another thing is the 1999 TC motors (used only in touring bike that year I think) had problems with the cam bearings..BTW I would love to have a springer, if you want something that you can fix up there is so many different directions you can go with one of these that it's incredible...(Hmmm wonder if my wife would let me get a 4th bike..maybe a springer0
