Default Twin Cam Carb Conversion - Two questions

I'm doing a carb conversion on my 96" Twincam, and running all new wiring. The existing harness is completely stripped out of the bike. Couple of questions:

1. Is a Super E carb sufficient, or should I be using a B or G carb? I'm 99% sure I can use an E for a 96" motor but I want to confirm.

2. I'm planning on using a Thunder Heart ignition system.

They only list these for the 88" motors - is there a specific reason for this? It works off of the existing crank sensor, which my 96" has obviously. What's the reason that they're not listed for the 96" motors?

Got #2 answered, it can be used on any twin-cam motor of any size. Still wondering about the carb choice though.

A buddy of mine converted his 88 to carb. I assume you have already acquired the proper Tank, Petcock, Intake Manifold, and Coil. As for the carb, I recommend the Mikuni. Excellent throttle response and very easy to tune.

I would also go with Mikuni. I have heard nothing but wonderful things with them on Twin Cams. Although I love my CV modified by Dale Sanders at Killer Motorcycle. The S&S though is a rock solid carb and is SIMPLE to work on but I never got good mileage out of it.

Just my opinions. Good luck to you.

Thanks guys. Appreciate your comments on the Mikuni. I'll have to do some more reading. Problem is, all of these carbs are listed for the 88" Twin cam motors so it's a little hard to get info about using them on the 96" motors. Obviously they'll physically fit but I want to make sure I choose one that's sized appropriately, and something I can jet correctly for the bigger motor.

They are just listed for 88" engines because some 88's had carbs. All 96's had FI.

That's why I'm wondering if the size difference between the two motors enough to warrant going to a bigger carb, or if a carb meant for an 88" motor can be re-jetted for a 96" motor. The E carb can go up to 100" as far as what S&S recommends, I'm guessing the Mikuni can also be used on the bigger motor without too much trouble also.

Just give Mikuni a call. Lots of big inch motors that would leave our sitting still run Mikuni's. Just see what they recommend.

Get a Mikuni HSR45. I run that on my 95" and it hauls butt.
