Looking at getting a toolkit to put on the bike for my upcoming trips. What are people using, any recommendations? Or just simple build your own? ha!
Also reading people getting dented fenders from them so I guess its better to put above the headlight.........
Something waterproof and leather or course.
I'm seeing pricing from $40-$100. however none of them mention what years of bikes they service. I'm guessing my old 1998 may use some different size tools then a 2013...?
i have a swingarm bag, so i dont really run a toolkit on my bike, just a few odds and ends i keep in that. however, my dad has a roll-up cloth/velcro toolkit that he keeps in a leather pouch that straps to the front forks, down in front of the voltage regulator..no issues with it
Once ran a fork bag to carried a first aid kit. It scratched the paint on the fender and certainly wasn't large enough to carry required tools. Apparently you don't have or want saddle bags.
How about those Softail teardrop shaped toolboxes that bolt to the frame next to the oil tank? I've always liked the look of those and they seem pretty practical for holding a few basic tools, etc. Plus you can get one for each side of the bike if you want. Although they are about $90 each from H-D so maybe just one is fine.

oh. Never heard of those. I'll look into it. Thanks!

LVHD had them in stock though I don't know if they still are in stock. FYI, there is also a LH and RH set up. Originally, I was going to try one of the tear drop kits but it seemed like it wouldn't work on my bike with the detachable bracket set up for my bags. Ended up trying a couple of different leather bags from Leather HQ. The smaller one is shown in my avatar photo. I don't use the larger one since picking up the smaller bag.
