Default My tunes solution

This is how I set my tunes up. You could also do this for a GPS.

I wired a fused 12 volt outlet to my battery and ran it under the tank. I have a tank lift on my bike so it left a nice little pocket to tuck the outlet and wiring under.

I used a RAM threaded ball https://www.expressmounts.com/ram-mo...-348u-gp1.html mounted in a factory hole on my dash. As luck would have it the threads are the same.

Then I used this basic setup. You can order it as a set or individual parts. https://www.expressmounts.com/ram-mo...-138-ap9u.html

The audio cord also runs under the tank to the coil location where I plug in my ear buds. The earbuds are Sony MDREX58X/BLK EX enclosed in some "do it yourself" custom ear molds.

These Sony ear buds sound great and are small so they fit well in the ear and deep enough I can cover them completely with the ear mold material. You need to use and ear bud that is sealed. Some have holes or ports and the wind noise will be terrible.

Now you may notice the holder is for an Iphone 4 and I have an Iphone 5. The 4 holder fits my phone perfect with the case I have except it is taller. I took my heat gun and very slowly and very carefully heated the Ram holder until it was soft and gently stretched the top tab until it was tall enough to fit my 5. This took several times and you have to be very careful not to melt the plastic.

RAM has several mounts so this could be used for a GPS as well.

Are you using reg ipod earphones that came with your phone?

If so, go buy some Skull Candy ones or some Woodees (there are way better ones also, but these are pretty good for the $30-$50 range) "stock" ear phones are terrible.

Excellent set up for tunes while riding.

Forget the Skull Candy, I have tried those and while they were good these give the best bang for the buck. Awesome sound and excellent at noise canceling. Read the reviews, I can attest to the positive reviews. If you like your tunes these are money well spent.

I get it off ebay. I think the is the one. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Custom-Molde...item4abda8bdd5

Radians is also a brand name that makes the material. You can do an ebay search for "custom ear plug". They come in a few different colors.

Not downing your setup, but I'm curious.
Why not use Bluetooth? No wires, no having to plug, unplug, tuck wires.

Do you have issues with those earbud wires flapping about in the breeze?

I'm not aware of any bluetooth ear buds without any wires. They are at least from ear to ear and/or another wire to a pack. Also the bluetooth ear buds tend to be a little larger. If you're talking about the over ear style then you would have to contend with wind noise. I wear a half helmet so wind noise is a major consideration. If you had an full helmet then wind noie would be less of a factor.

The reasons I use the custom plugs are:
-better fit
-more comfortable so no ear pain after extended use
-small buds so I can enclose them in the material
-custom plugs mean outside noise is at a minimum
With these plugs the surrounding noise is much less so I don't have to crank the volume up high. I can listen to music at a very reasonable level and still hear what's going on around me for safety.

When I need to get off the bike for gas, etc. I just leave the buds in my ear and disconnect them at the coil location.

You could do the same thing with a bluetooth set but then I would need a provision to charge the set on the bike and then there's the extra cost of the bluetooth set. The Sony set I use cost around $18 and they sound great!

When I put the buds in I drop the wire under my shirt or jacket. At the bottom where it connects I fold any excess wire under the tip of the seat where it goes over the console. It's really nice and neat.
