Just follow the river south to New Orleans.
Get some great food and night life, and head back north on the other side of the river.

I will have to put that down on my list, great idea. I know along the river in WI, IL there are great little towns with great little taverns.

I was raised in Ohio but every summer I went to my Moms side of the family in West Virginia. You just can't beat the scenery there and the mountain riding. The Blue Ridge ride is one of the most awesome rides you can take in this country, IMHO. I also have a nephew that just moved to Colorado and he says the scenery there is awesome too but the bummer is that the 1st part of the ride through a flat and boring Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska to get there seems to go on forever!! Hey "livingontherock" where is it that you are located in Ill.? I am in Illinois too about 20 miles west of Joliet on rt. 80, ever been down this way? We have TONS of guys who come down to this area from the city or up that way in the summer on the weekends to go to 1 of the 4 or 5 watering holes down around here on the Illinois river. I have seen as many as 150, 200 bikes on any given weekend day, it's a great place to ride, to see some really nice bikes and to show yours off too. If you ever feel like riding down this way next spring, summer or fall give me a shout and I could show you around, if you have never been down here already that is. How far are you from this area? I work swing 12's so I work every other weekend but I would be more than happy to show you and your buddies some nice riding out this way should you ever want to head down here, see where all the guys go, party, rides, runs and Pig roasts and the weekend "parking lot bike shows" that just happens almost every weekend around here down on the river, nothing planned or formal at all either, just show up, park it and go grab a beer or 5 and a burger.

Located in Machesney Park IL about 7 miles south of the WI border. I used to live in Marsielles, IL so familiar with that area. There are some great rides around there and some really good people. Used to always end up at Fat Daddys for a burger. Is that place still open? Used to be the best burger around.

Small world, isn't it? Yes, Fat Daddy's is one of the places I was talking about. Also, the "Boondock's", not sure how long they been here either. I am not from here but have been here for a few many years now. Shoot, you probably know this area then better than I do!! Oh well, the offers always open just the same.

Sounds good to me, be nice to see ome of the old spots, haven't ridden around there in years. Hell I may know you. What town are you in, guessing but Morris, Seneca? Great back road along the river between the 2 towns, you familiar with that, not many people are.

All of these destinations sure give a guy a lot to think about. My only thing is that I have never been into the desert, never seen the Grand Canyon, never been anywhere real tropical (that is why I would like the Keys) etc. I was in North Carolina a couple springs back visiting a buddy stationed at Ft. Bragg. Had a blast, that's for sure!

Weatherman is calling for Monday to have a high of -9* F, with a low of -22*F.. Wherever I go, I want it to be HOT with a lot of 'good scenery'. Lol! I'll get on the Train and ride somewhere by myself if I have to!

I was thinking it might be good to head southwest and then hook up with Historic Route 66 and head across NM, AZ, make a quick top in Vegas.. ending at San Diego. Either that or head SE, through the Smokies, ending in South Florida..

I have to get all the guys together here soon to talk about it. The difference between me and a couplle of my buddies is I am very ambitious.. Couple of them are pretty, well.. They like to procrastinate, I'll just say that. Lol.

If you're headed toward the Black Hills, Yellowstone Park and the Beartooth Highway is only a few hours away.

You're reading my mind. It's Southwest for me, I have to go warm/hot. And we must have the same friends, last year everyone procrastinated and eventually backed out and I didnt go. Won't let that happen again, will go solo if I have to. Either way an adventure.
