Well, I figured since I am bored, again, sitting in the frigid north... I would start another thread. I am planning a ride with probably 6-12 friends the first week of June. Going to be leaving Minneapolis, MN June 2, and have until June 9th to make it back. Really, we could go anywhere we wanted... Everyone was thinking take a ride from Minneapolis and head towards Sturgis/Black Hills/Mount Rushmore... I'm not sure though. It seems to me if we have all this time, we should take advantage of it and head somewhere WARM. Not that it is not warm here in June, but I was thinking that a ride to San Diego, Phoenix, South Florida (the Keys?) or Myrtle Beach would be much more worth it than going somewhere I could ride to in a day. I would even consider heading to TX (I have relatives there I could visit).
What about you guys? What's your opinion? I know that a ride of this size will be about 25-30 hours one way from the Minneapolis area. I figure if we have 7 days to do this, I'd give 5 total days of travel time. 2.5 to get to the destination, 2.5 to get back. That gives a couple days and a night of screwing off at the destination should we want to. Seem feasible?
Any other destinations you guys might have in mind? Let me know your thoughts.. I brought it up to the guys via E-mail yesterday, and have not heard anything yet. They are probably a bit intimidated. The way I look at it is if the guys back in the 60's and 70's did it on the brickhouse suspensions of that era.. There is no reason why we can't get it taken care of on these newer bikes.
I look forward to hearing what you all have to say.. Let the territory wars begin.
I met some guys from your state in Laconia NH during Laconias bike week...They said they had a blast..They have some serious mountains with some awesome trails to ride through them all and pull over to take pics and what not...Then in weirs beach is where all the hell goes on(partying, vendors, bands and all the above)..we put on 300 miles just riding around aimlessly in 1 day.. then chilled around weirs beach for the night. Good luck with the trip planning!
I am planning a summer ride also. About the same amount of time, 9 days, was thinking west but I really need to get to where the sun shines after a winter in Northern IL. Thinking about heading to Southern Colorado to somewhere.

I know what you mean, man.. I work overnights, to top it all off. I REALLY am missing sunlight! Lol. I would really like to hit Florida or San Diego.. I am due for some good beach time, that's for sure.
From: Bar Harbor, Maine..born and raised a Georgia boy
Sounds amazing!...I just moved from Utah where my wife worked at Zion National Park, and that is some gorgeous riding, but at the same time, you could swing over to the east a bit, hit the Blue Ridge Parkway down thru NC and TN then over to Myrtle Beach or down thru GA to FL...if you didn't wanna hit the Keys bc of I-95 and it's constant traffic/construction you could always hit Panama City Beach.

Problem here is at least have to go 2 states to get anywhere. Looking forward to any ride but cutting across Iowa and Nebraska again.
The million dollar highway in CO is a gorgeous area, near Durango and telluride ski resort. Utah is also an awesome place to ride. Anywhere in the Rockies pretty much, or even northern NM in the Sangre de Christo mountains. There are some great rides in the Eureka Springs AK area as well, great ride called the Pig Trail down there.
You can't beat a nice New England ride. You can hit up a lot of nice places in just a few hours. I live down on the coast of RI. Boston is 1-1/2 hour, Laconia is 3
Everyone should go once last time i went on an off weekend no big name band their were people from ohio ,cal, michigan etc.... plenty of people from TX to
The week your looking to ride is the Americade Rally in Lake George NY. There are many great roads to ride in the Adirondack mtns there. I have been doing this rally for 20 yrs and still find different roads to ride every year. Plenty of hotels, motels and campgrounds. Ride all day and party all night. Americade never gets old.
