I'm going to replace the stock pipes on my '12 Fatboy Lo with either the V&H 2 into 2's or the Staggered Shortshots.
I want new pipes for looks and sound, not really concerned about more power right now. Two questions.......
Will the dealer need to tune the motor or anything, or just bolt them on?
I notice there's about a $300 price difference between the two. Is that just because of more material and bending them?
They will try to sell you on the tuning for your bike! They did the same to me. I'm no expert but I was told it is not necessary to tune it. I was told it just a sales tactic to squeeze more money out of you. However, if you are going to have the bike tuned I would wait until you have both intake and exhaust then get it tuned. At this point it will make a big difference in performance.

Thanks!
I agree with Sfcg77. Installing the exhaust system alone should not require tuning. If you complete the stage 1 install with an open intake then you should definitely tune the bike.
As far as the cost of the pipes, it is probably more than just materials and manufacturing. There may be a greater demand for the 2-2's and hence V&H tacks on $300+.
I had my dealer add V&H Big Shots Long, and the air cleaner/and tuner to my 12 FLSTC
It was going into the winter season so they agreed to give a discount for the dyno tune.
3 hours for the price of one.
Can't beat that.
IT'S STILL WINTER, MAYBE YOU CAN GET A DEAL?
I have the big shot staggered on my 2010 and I do not care for them performance wise. I know your not concerned with performance but here is my experience with them. Bike was purchased used with 5000 miles on it (divorce caused sale). Already installed on stock engine was these pipes along with the VH fuelpack tuner and the VH alien looking air cleaner setup. The bike had a noticeable torque dip in the 2500 to 3500 rpm range. It was very easy to notice. I did the fuelmoto 107 kit with 555 cams and power vision dyno tuned. It runs awesome but there is still that dip in power same rpm range. # dyno tuners later all say the same exact thing its the pipes! Jamie said the same thing at fuelmoto. This weak I will be replacing them with Rinehart 2-1 purchased from Jamie! Looks and sound on the BSS are very good but the seat of the pants feel on that dip I hate... they will be up for sale soon....
