SO...I had been searching for the oem side plate mount for a softail, and finally found one. I got around to installing it today, and I have to say - I'm kinda bummed out by how it looks.
It DOES work with detachable saddlebags though, which was my main goal.
Looks like I'll be biting the bullet on the kury lay down bracket.
glad to see that you finally got it installed. sorry it didnt turn out the way you liked it. question. have thought about having vertical? i cant remember but there is a thread started where they used that stock mount plate and mounted it vertically.. looked a lot better. look at the slim threads
Yup, at one time, I had a side mount on mine, but it didn't look right, stuck out to far. Vertical would have been okay, but they were outlawed here too a few years back.
Verticals are essentially illegal in any state. That said, I have had mine for 4 years and about 25k miles. Took it cross country a few years back, got pulled over in 2 different states for other infractions, and no mention or ticket was ever issued for the vertical plate. Don't quote me, but pretty sure it's not going to get you pulled, it may just get tacked on to the ticket if you're really acting like an ***. Just my .01, gotta save the other .01 for the taxman.
