Default New Metzeler Marathon tyre issue ?

Hi folks

Just had a new Metzeler Marathon rear tyre mounted today. When I came home with the wheel i noticed that the mech has mounted the tyre with the red dot on the side wall just opposite of the valve stem. As far as I know the red dot is always supposed to be aligned with the valve stem, am I right ??? And should I worry about this. The mech has also balanced the wheel. I think its possible to see it on the picture I have attached.

Have you ridden it yet? Honestly, I wouldn't have noticed. If it rides OK at all speed, I would say carry on...otherwise I will pay attention when getting a tire mounted.

Haven't ridden it yet as the winter is still hanging on here in Denmark and I'm not quite finished with my winter mods yet

You would be correct, sir.
I suppose it doesn't make any difference that you are on the other side of the GMT line does it?

The red dot should be mounted at the valve stem however if the tire balanced correctly I would leave it as is.

As was said above. From what I gather, the dot indicates the lightest point of balance on the tire, thereby making the obvious starting point to place that at the heaviest point of the rim - the valve stem location. But only if your rim is perfectly balanced to begin with. It may just be that the heaviest point is not the valve stem. A good tire tech should spin the naked rim on the balancer to deduce the placement of the lightest point of the tire. So, if the tire is properly balanced then I would say the tech is probably doing exactly what he is supposed to, and that is minimize the amount of additional weight required to balance the wheel. If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.

when i mount and balance, i first try to balance the rim/tire without air, and the bead NOT seated. i can then rotate the tire on the rim to acheive the least amount of weight needed to balance the assembly. get as close as posable without air, then air, and finish. i balance with rotors/pulleys attached, and pay no attention to the dot....steve

What matters is that the rotation arrow is pointed forward. What snip said to me is the best way of doing it.
