Default True dual heat issue

I've been looking into which exhaust I would like for my '12 Deluxe and no matter what I look at I keep coming back to duals. I like the duals the most because in the future I plan to run some hard bags.

My main concern with running the duals is how the left side header runs over the top of the primary. I'm worried that there will be an issue with heat when I put my foot down at a stop or while backing up, as I'm 5'-7". Can anyone confirm that this would be an issue.

Thanks

I'm 5'9" and don't notice any more heat from the pipes. I notice less on the right side which is nice since that's usually the foot I put down at lights. Most of the heat I feel is coming from the rocker box covers not the exhaust.

I had the same questions as I am looking to get new exhaust for my '13 Deluxe. I was concerned with the heat issue also but judging only on how many people have true duals with the crossover on this board and how they rave about them I would say if there was a problem with the heat issue it would be brought up all of the time.

I am going with the Samson true dual Longtails when i pull the trigger on getting new pipes. You just can't beat the looks and sound.

Can't say I've noticed a heat problem. Maybe a degree or two of warmth, but it's not life threatening!

I run Duals on my Fatboy. Heat from the left pipe is not extreme but occasionally when I plant my feet on the ground, I get reminded that there's an exhaust pipe there. Recently added a Crotch Cooler from Captain Itch which made a huge difference.

This is frequently a topic of concern. You can search this forum for "True Dual heat" and sort through the results for answers.

You'll probably find that very few TD owners have any significant problems with heat from the left side header. I believe that your inseam length, not your height, is a factor. The shorter your inseam, the more likely you are to have problems. The reason is that when your left foot is down, a shorter inseam causes your leg to be more vertical placing it in closer proximity to the header. With a longer inseam, the left leg is placed more forward away from the header. Again, this is just my opinion.

By the same reasoning, your HD model and seat height can also play a role. Lower seat height would effectively increase your leg length. Taking this concept further, overweight riders lower the bike effectively lengthening their legs.

I'm 5'9" with a 34" inseam and ride a Heritage. I am 174 lbs. and seat height (laden) is 25.5". I have no heat problems from the left header. Now, after living in Texas for 26 years, I may be insensitive to heat ???

Default Harley Heat

I've run different exhaust systems on my Electra Glide over the years and it's hard to get away from the heat issue. Currently running Rush slip ons and love them. The only issue I have with the pipes is the end caps. They should be powder coated black with silver accents, they have turned a nasty brown. Hope to resolve this issue soon. Anyone else experience this kind of discoloration? Otherwise totally happy with the look and sound.

I'll let you know how my set turns out. I just ordered the 36" Samson duals.

My inseam is 31" and the bike has a factory seat on factory suspension. So basically my footwear determines whether I can stand flat-footed or not.
