Default What Service Should I Request?

I just picked up a 2001 FLSTCI with right at 14,000. Ordered the service manual and should be at the dealer soon. I am fairly mechanically inclined, but feel like it might be a good idea to have the dealer do a full service / inspection this first time just to make sure everything is in good order. Any suggestions on what I should ask for since it's an older bike, but with fairly lows miles?

Thanks in advance!

There is nothing the dealer is going to do that you can't do, other than you being out $300-$400.

After you get the service manual:
Check critical fasteners.
Change fluids in all 3 holes.
Check the tires for proper inflation, sidewall cracks, depth of tread.
Do a battery test
Check the brake pads, replace if necessary.
I probably missed a couple of things, but you get the idea.

If you feel more comfortable having the dealer check it out, by all means do.
Make sure it is a trusted reputable dealer.

But, you can do all this yourself at a fraction of the cost.

It's an 88 engined bike so dont forget to check the Camm chain tennioners at around 20,000 - 25,000 for excess wear, if they fall apart they'll do a lot of damage to your engine.

I have a couple additions to what has already been recommend.

-Along with your service manual, purchase a Harley Parts Manual. This manual has schematics and Harley stock numbers for every component on your bike.

-Construct a detailed Maintenance Log and keep it up to date.

-Brake fluid should be flushed every 2 years.

-Check your manual, but I believe that Fork Oil should be changed every 20,000 miles.

-And yes, research everything you can concerning Cam Chain Tensioners.

Some great advice here! I would like to add, instead of paying for a parts manual, use one of the free ones available on the net.

Wow! Thanks much for all the guidance! I have the manual now, so I may just start stripping it down and inspecting everything. I feel pretty comfortable on the fluid changes. Do you recommend the cam chain upgrade that I read about somewhere before it becomes a problem?

The problem with Camm tensioners is how longs a piece of string, some last 50,000 miles or more others can go at 20,000, best check them first at as I said before around 20,000-25,000 miles if they're ok leave them and check them every 10,000 miles or so, the excess wear is caused by the chains that Harleys use, some having sharp bits on them that wear away the Camm shoes, problem with the Screaming Eagle up grade is that the kit only comes with one roller type chain you have to still use the original chain on the rear Camm, unless you change the Camm as well, the other way to go is gear driven which is more expensive still, a lot of it comes down to how long your going to keep the bike and how many miles you ride.if the Camm shoes are still pretty good at 30,000 easiest option is to just to change them, if they're really worn at 20,000 go with the SE kit with a new Camm. There is a lot of info on this problem on the forum..

Tell them to check the bike over for you if you want...Tell them to let you know what is the main issues and do it yourself...I paid the dealer when my bike got to 20k $120.00 just to go over it from end to end...They wrote a couple things down for me...Fork oil was the main thing. few other minor stuff they took care of...now at 75000 miles i still do my own stuff except for warrnty work...Pretty simple stuff...
