I too like how your bike looks with the new pipes. My tach does not get in the way of the windshield, but it is a quick release type with the c-clamp style mounts.

Thanks man, your post is why I started to worry a bit. I have the detachable like QC mentions, but not the windshield bags.

Thanks for the fast replies and props QC.

A buddy put a tach on his FXDWG bars. Doesn't look bad, but I prefer the 2 in 1 cleaner look.

I used the HD 2.5" tach on Carlinni bars and their mount.

I think the preference on where to mount it comes down to whether you want to look down from the road to see the tach or be able to look where your going at the same time as the tach.

I seriously considered the single unit but like to see the road at the same time as the tach.

Hey guys, let me hijack the thread for a second and ask a question.

I was also thinkin of gettin a bar mounted tach, nothin special. How do you hook them up to the motor?? Is it a mechanical type cable or do they plug in somewhere??? (1990 softail evo)

Thanx for the info....I aint too smart!!!

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I just have to pull the trigger today. Great info and THANKS for the pics! ctluba, I am going by the theory the stand alone tach's are just like any other in theres a wire to the coil, ground, battery and keyed power. I hope thats all there is. It sounds like the speedo/tach units are just plug a play replacement for the existing speedo.

Bikerlaw, the tach drive for your bike is in the speedo connector under the dash. The parts guys can get you the pin needed to plug into this. I'll look at mine this afternoon and let you know which one for sure, but IIRC it is number 3 position on the connector. Mine had a plug in it.

I'm not sure if it's available or not anymore.

I got mine thru Lakeshore HD about a year ago.

There was one on ebay yesterday.
