Hi
My 2011 Softail Heritage Classic (FLSTC) is an European model
However I noticed that in the FLSTC models which come from USA (and not Europe), both left and right FRONT TURN SIGNALS are always ON, but when a turn is made the relevant turn signal does blink accordingly
In my FLSTC model (The European ... ) the Front Turn Signals are always OFF , however the relevant turn signal blinks when making a turn as it should...
I personally think that the USA configuration is much better and I think that as a biker I'm much better observed in the mirrors of the driver ahead of me if my front turn signals are always ON.
Therefore, I would like to change my front turn signals to operate same as it operates on the FLSTC USA models ( namely, both left and right front turn signals are always ON, but when a turn is made, the relevant turn signal does blinks accordingly
My question to the forum:
In order the change my European FLSTC to behave as an USA FLSTC model when it comes to the front turn signals , should I just wire some wires differently or should I also purchase
some parts ?
Could you please let me know what is the parts list I should purchase and what parts on my European FLSTC should be replaced to make it happen ?
I'd say start cheap.. take a look in to the bulb, see if it's a Single filament bulb, or a Dual filament bulb.. if it's a single, try buying some dual-filament bulbs and see what happens. They should be socket 1157 for the front, and 1156 for the rear.
If you have access to underneath the tank, the wires that come from the turn signals to under the tank go in to 1 single 6-wire connector, and the wire colors should be brown, white, and purple with a brown stripe (i think?).. see if those 6 wires are there, if they are, it should work like the US bikes
Um..really though I'm not sure, you may have to run some new wires to get them to behave like the US bikes
when I had my bars on my FXS changed, the dealer asked me if I wanted him to turn my front running lights off. they did it, works fine, they are off until turn signal comes on, so my guess is take your bike to your dealer and have him do the opposite for you. hope that helps.
I have a US spec. 2006 softail standard but currently live in the UK. I had to deactivate the running light because it is against the law to have them. All I had to do was unplug my blue wire (there were three wires running from the turn signal light to the plug under the tank, red, black and blue). I would check your manual and see what color corresponds to the running light and see if it is present. If it's just unhooked then plug it in to the correct socket. If it's not there, then you'll have to get the connectors and wire to hook them up. You could also look into getting a set of US spec turn signals off of ebay and just hook them up.
Good luck getting this sorted out.
