1 - Does law enforcement in your area go after shoulder high apes ? then go 11.
2 - Are you going to have the bars parallel to forks (the old school and some may say lame look) then 14" will bring it back , 11" will be good too. the pullback is good.
3 - Are you going to roll the bars slightly forward as the 'new cool' look , then the apes will be far from you and sit you up right or tilted forward, the shorter apes will be further as you push them forward but the longer apes will be significantly higher.
4 - Be mindful of how 'wide' they are, the wider they are they more you stretch your arms out, I keep saying I have wild one that will go shortly, they are very uncomfortable at 36" wide, a 30 or even 32" wide will be a lot more friendly and easier on shoulders and chest , specially without a wind shield.

Hope this helps.

Johnny law dont care. I ride with a cop who has at least 16's. How much i roll them will depend on where im comfortable but these things have an 11" pullback so i dont think i can go wrong either way.

Now that im thinking about it with the amount of pull back i think im gonna have to go with the 14's. Thanks everyone! now i just need to figure out how much extensions on cables and wires

Ok so here's what im planning:

Santee 14" apes
http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/sa.../SANTEE-693673

burly 14" cable kit
http://www.burlybrand.com/cablekits/index.aspx

namz wire extension (just for ease of installation)
http://www.namzcustomcycleproducts.c...kits_2011.html

Does anyone see any problems with this setup?

Stock riser inserts may not be stiff enough for the new handlebars. Consider going to polyurethane ones. http://www.jpcycles.com/product/5000021

Definitely get poly bushings. The stock rubber ones will wear out and it will flex quite a bit, even with 14's.

FYI though I had a bad experience with my Burly kit. I put in their easy-pull kit (which I love) but because of it you can really feel drag and chatter in the clutch cable they include their kit. I've ordered a replacement from Magnum and I am hoping for a much smoother pull.

There is a thread on problems with the burly clutch cable also;

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/prima...e-problem.html

Then there were the wire extensions. Assuming you're running yours inside the bars. If I had to do it again I would either run my own wires one-by-one or I'd buy the apes that already have them run inside the bars. The extensions they give you are easy enough to put together but I had a heck of a time getting them through the bars because the connectors turn into big clusters once they're all wrapped up.

Anyways, to your question in general, my advice is to always go a little higher than you think you want. You'll likely wish you had later

I just looked at the NAMZ cable extensions you posted. My concern would be that the connector furthest from the frame on my bike would actually land inside the bars (again, assuming you're doing internal wires, fat bars) but even if you're not, it still may be a concern because it will likely be visible. I'd ask them before you order just to make sure. Mine are 16's so it may be that on 14's they work out great.

my 2c. Good luck

Thanks for the heads up on the clutch cable. I'll have to read more into it. As far as the wires Im not using the burly's that come with the kit. Gonna just toss them and use namz extension harnesses. There cheap and would much rather have the plug n play instead of heat shrink.

Yep, check my second comment, I'd ask just to make sure. Those would definitely be nice if they work out!

I actually thought about that myself. Def gonna give them a call and ask to be sure everything can be tucked. Especially with how short the stock bars on the slim are, might be stretching the wires a bit to get them through the 14's and back under the tank
