Default Cross bones new wheels

I'm looking at new wheels for my bones and I've been thinking about this for a very long time but I thought I might get some options or advice just in case I've overlooked some crucial aspect.

I've searched and read the threads, called distributors, and have almost all the money to do this if I decide to pull the trigger. So here goes!

I'm thinking of getting these wheels:

They are Roland Sands wheels and I have located the part numbers for the front (21x3.5in using a 120/70) and the rear (18x5.5 using 200/55).

Of course in searching the forum I found several pics of Milty's sweet ride too. Btw milty, awesome!

I'm aware of the issue the 21in would have on handling and found the Burly Springer lowering kit to address the issue. I've read how some say it stiffens the ride a little and other have said it jarred their teeth so bad they took it out again.

As far as the overall look of my bike, I will never run apes, I will keep the low bars I have. In the future I may change the rear fender but I plan to always run the sissy bay too.

Another issue would be of course that the front fender would not fit. The bike is 2 years old and has 20,000 miles so I ride a lot. Would this be an issue no run no front fender? I see a lot of people that run without them. Also, what might be involved in getting another fender? This isn't a huge concern, as it can be a project for a later date, but options are nice.

I'm looking for advice or opinions in this matter, as well as anything I may have failed to look into. As far as the wheels go, I can get matching rotors but I have not been able to find a matching pulley. But the stock pulley looks nice and I don't think it would matter, and I don't foresee rushing to buy the rotors either to be honest.

Nice wheel. I like them simple myself. Personally wouldn't run without a front fender, but sometimes a guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do. A great looking 'Bones you have.

Simple as in the wheels I have picked out are simple, or the wire wheels currently on the bike are?

Another option could be the larger wire wheel, but I didn't care for it without the fat spokes. For the price, I might as well go with the billet.

I would like those wheels on a Dyna, but not on an old school Springer with a spring seat. Way to "techno" for a Springer. I'm not suggesting fat spokes by any means, but something more traditional than a fancy billet wheel. At least IMHO, it takes more to make a wheel like that work on a Springer that some powder coat.

The wheels you have picked are simple, uncluttered, clean. They would look good on your bike. Be a little different on a 'Bones.

I'll admit my own reservations on the style too. My thought process was they look like something off of a WWII fighter plane.

When you say more traditional, you mean a wire wheel to match the rear but in that size? I've explored the option but I'm not sure where to look for a 21x3.5 that would work.

Even getting it in chrome and blacking out the hoop to match would be fine. I have the ability to get PC done locally for cheap. And to be honest, one wheel is cheaper than 2 and the idea for that reason is appealing.

This Bones has the same wheel sizes I was thinking. The stance of this bike is perfect. The rounded rear fender certainly helps, but as I've stated, that's a mod for the future.

I think you got the right idea going on, check this one out, it has similar wheels to the ones you are looking at. I think the ones you have chosen would look bitchin, if done right. With the heartland bobber kit it would really set off the look you are going for.

I am afraid I am going to have to agree with at least one other person so far and say that those wheels probably aren't suited for your Bones. Of course, I've never cared much for RSD stuff at all and I think their designs only work on a very limited style of bikes, most being very 'contemporary' looking. I ABSOLUTELY HATE THEIR GAWDY AIR CLEANERS!

I can see where you might be coming from with your choice based on the sample that you posted of that gray-ish Bones. However, I think you would have to also drastically change your Bones in order for this style of wheel to be a perfect marriage.

That said, I am afraid I can't offer a suggestion for you as wheels are something that I seldom look into since I have the luxury of being perfectly happy with the stock wheels.

What I might suggest is that if you do go with these wheels that maybe you start looking into some of the edge cut (also referred to as contrast cut) accessories that are around now. Your Bones has black as well as aluminum finishes on it. However it doesn't really have it in combination on any one piece the way these wheels do. So maybe throw on some edge cut pegs, grips, and engine and tranny covers to tie in the wheels? Who knows? Those of us who object may be proved wrong once the wheels are actually on the scoot. I guess you just have to take the leap and see! Best of luck in all of this!

Oh. I forgot to put in my two cents about the fender.

If you put on a lot of miles and don't just ride to your local Hooters or Wing House every weekend then I say a fender is a must. Like you, I put on a lot of miles on my Bones (24K in the first two years). I realize that this will present a challenge both in how to fit the fender as well as what style of fender would fit the theme of your Bones. But if you can manage to solve it, I would vote for a fender. I LOVE the no-fender look but I would not run without one unless it was a second scoot that I only ride around town or that I only take out when the weather is ideal.
