Hey Lion, let us know how you made out. I'm gonna be doing this job as soon as the weather breaks!

I was told by a few people that it's an easy job: remove the old ones, replace the gasket, install the new ones. That's pretty much how the manual explains it.

Good luck! [sm=smiley20.gif]

Will do. I will be starting the job sometime this week. I have the rocker covers and a chrome front end kit to install. My tank is off right now getting repainted vivid black. I ordered the 07 street glide chrome emblems to put on it. I luv softails... just don't like the cheesy emblem they put on the tanks. So while the tank is off this is a good time to do it.

Like your wheels spyder. what are they and where they from?

Ok, i'm going to be the one guy that has gone against what the manual says to do. I was a mechanic for 20 years and rebuilt plenty of engines, now i'm not saying that my method should be used, by all means your much safer to go by the manual if you have limited mechanical experiance.

I did not bother to set up TDC on either cylinder when installing the rocker arms. The timing between valve and piston has not changed, the only concern is bleeding down a hydraulic lifter. Once the lower rocker box is installed and you mount the rocker assembly, I tighten down the bolts evenly, allowing time for the lifter to bleed.I tighten them 1/4 turn, wait, 1/4 turn, wait. ETC.

I'm sure to hear crap for this procedure, it works for me, but is not the "correct" procedure.

No crap from me. As long as they bleed down and get stress off boxes. In all prob. could bolt down at same time in any position and not hurt any thing but my luck be buying new rocker boxes!lol Besides tdc and "unloaded boxes" easy.

Well, I got it done today. My son was home sick today so I had to stay home with him. Seemed like a good time since the weather here hit 50 today. It was a very easy process. All in all excluding the time it took to run out and get the gasket kit and gaskets for the rockers it took around 3 hours... course I am a slow worker at first time things also. Biggest thing is there are just so many bolts to tighten down.

But it was a painless process. You just need to follow the manual and make sure you unload the rocker arms. The manual does state that. One thing I learned though.. at least on my '07 standard... when you put the rocker assembly in make sure you put the breather assembly with the seperator bolt that's directly under the frame in along with it.... cuz there is no way your gonna get that in otherwise. I realized it on the front cylinder but was able to work that one in without removing the rocker assembly again. On the rear... I just made myself a mental post it note.

Thanks again guys for your help. You guys saved me 150 dollars to have the dealer do it. Since I have more time than money right now it was worth it for me to do it. Even if I cut that in half cuz I figure my time is worth at least 25.00 dollars and hour... still saved 75.

Now for the chrome front end... JLOCKHART29 I might contact you for a little experienced information since you have done this already and we have pretty much the same forks. If that's okay with you?

Thanks again.
