I was going to put avons on, they were my first choice but when I started shopping for them I couldn't find the same model in both front and rear tires..There is something about having a matched set of tires that I like. So I went with the Night Dragons..so far I am extremely happy with the choice
I think either would be a great decision and I'm not sitting on the fence here, it's just that I know both tyres very well and they are both great. It might come down to budget to be honest. Here in the UK Avon's tend to be cheaper maybe due to the fact that the factory is based here so Cobra's. If money wasn't an option then maybe the ME880 Metzeler's.
Great website to see both is www.tyretectrading.com however, I reckon delivery to the US would be at least Ł50 due to the weight of these babies!!
A lot depends on the size of the tire. I tried a Metz. 200/50R17 on my Fatboy and though it handled well didn't last worth a hoot. At 4k it was ready to come off. I've used Metzlers for years on my dressers in the 140 0r 150 size on the back and had excellent life and good handling compared to the Lops and avons. Maybe I just got a bad tire but I've got a Metzler 140/18 on the front at the same time I got the rear and I don't like it either. It wants to wag its tail around 30 or 40mph. Thinking out loud maybe it's bike model specific on what works on what. I've got a set of Avon Commander II's mounted up I'm going to try next if I ever get my motor parts(4 5/8" crank)that are on backorder.
