If you don't have a left hand twist drill bit a standard drill bit will work. You are just trying to drill off the head of the Allen bolt. With just the head removed you should be able to pull the unit out and still have some threads showing to grab with a pair of Vice-Grips or similar wrench to remove the bolt.
DON'T use the local hardware store hardware as 99% of it is made in China and uses inferior materials. Check out the local auto parts store as they usually have grade 5 or higher bolts and usually made in the USA.

Thanks again everyone. What actually worked was drilling the allen head off and it came out. Phew, now I can sleep...LOL. Seriously though, thanks . That is why I love this forum.

I stripped the bolt when I did my FLHTK, took it to the dealer and they charged me about 70 to drill it out and give me a new bolt. I will be doing the softail this weekend and hope I dont do it again.

A good way to start with this project is use an impact driver. When you strike the driver it it jars the treads while puting a twist on it. I've striped the heads out also but sense using the driver it's never happened. It's a great tool for allen head, philipshead, and regular head bolts and screws. Learned this from removing screws from panhead cam covers.
