If you haven't already, you can try searching the forum for cam results: LOTS of threads on it. The "sticky" at the head of this section regarding dyno numbers may be a good place to see what other guys have done with actual results. I will be adding to it myself when my break-in is done. Good luck and keep us updated.

The SE211 are decent cams in the 3k to 5k, without a bump in compression, but they will soft in the 2-3k..
Look at Tbones mods BB-kit, HP Pistons, Head Porting, He has done a lot of mods and those mods will let the 211's shine...
But the 211's would Not be my pick for stg1 and cams only mod.

U didn't say How U ride, Solo or 2 up.???. what rpm's do U usually ride at.???
Cruise at 65 a lot or racing type apps.

Also where do U want Ur TQ?? --- Low - Mid rpms (2-4)K or Mid- High rpms (3-5)K rpms.

Good to hear U look at the Dyno for Softails Thread,,

I started that thread back when I was trying to figure what cam to install.. I did a LOT of reading and studying on HD cams to try to pick the best one for my type of riding.. and Started it to help other through the Yrs.

As U know THEIR is NO ONE BEST cam out their that works for everyone....

Ur 203's are not all that bad of a pick for cam.

Funny thing is that of the 5 HD dealers within 50 of my House,, They each have a different pick for what they think is the best Stg1 and cam only mod..

two dealers thinks the SE 211's are it
another dealer say's the SE 204's are if U add the 4* advance gear.
another say's the Se 203 are.
another say's for Low -Mid TQ the S&S 551's are great in a 96''er

Honestly IMO any cam that has a Intake closing of less the 35* will do U a good job..

I went with the Andrews 26h's in mine, Why, well they are easy on the motor, give me 12% to 20% increase of TQ anywhere from 1800 to 5200 rpm's.
they decreased the oil temp 20* and I get 3-5 more mpg after tuned in on the dyno.
ARE the BEST --- NO, they just work for our type of riding.

U should also look at the Andrews 21 for good TQ in the 2-4.5K rpms and also the 26's will work good in Ur 88''er.

If U are planning on doing a BB kit and HP heads or pistons then the 211's will be a good set up.

If U want the best all around cam then look at some Woods cams, they cost More $$$ but they will usually make 2-4 better numbers both in TQ and HP, (or more with the right pipes).

Thank you for your reply oct. i do have a big bore 95", i am an aggressive rider in my opinion, esp in the upper mid range of RPMs. on the highway i back off more as with my cdl a ticket over 15 mph over means my cdl would be gonedy basically.

as i said i am not un satisfied with the 203s, but wanted ideas on what maybe a better choice for my riding since i will be replacing them. i dont want radical radical just a good strong pulling cam in the mid rpm range. I do ride solo ONLY, so i do not have to worry bout dead weight behind me. i really do appreciate the info and help along with your explanations.

Bob

well here is an update. I got the bike back today.... i ended up going with the screaming eagle cam plate and pump along with the se 211's and a new super tuner. I dont understand how the original dealer who the PO had the big bore and pcIII installed, did this but they had 2 different maps setup with power commander III. we decided to let me run it a week or so before we throw her on the dyno for a tune so i dont have any numbers to throw at ya yet...

but i will say this HOLY CRAP, what a difference its an arm stretcher now when you get after it. It pulls hard all the way up, i have no complaints whatsoever.

Glad to see Ur happy with them and as i said above they work really good in the mid upper RPM's, Which is where U wanted it. Even better is Ur a solo rider and won't notice much, if any down low rpm difference and with the BB kit Ur might ever be better in that range also..

Just have to see Ur new sheet to really know and compare to the 203's...

If U can it'd be nice to post Ur sheets in the dyno thread--- SE 203's VS SE 211's, so other can see the diff.

Don't forget to still keep an eye on that inner chain tensioner. The outer chain is upgraded to a roller with the SE kit, but the inner remains the stock link chain (unless your cam kit came with a new inner roller chain). The stock link chain will still wear right through the hydro tensioner.
