That's a nice chubby looking scooter - I'm definitely all about that look.

Very cool...

Babs,

Did you have any issues with the heritage saddlebags on the fatboy? I have a shot of a new set of hertage saddlebags for 500 in the box from the local dealer. Will they mount up easily,,,,I know I can use the ghost brackets UK-104.

Thanks,

miguel

I had Heritage bags on my old Heritage but not on the fatty.. But as far as issues, no.. not if it floats your boat. My taste is, the oem heritage bags are kind of like a trademark bag.. it's a Heritage thing.. However, it could be done on a fatty if you didn't mind a little Heritage Classic mixed in there with the looks.

Remember with larger bags on fatboys, you will probably have to get the signals off the struts which I'm in the process of doing when my license plate bracket shows up and my crimp tool for the signals.

Mounting.. The old and the new heritage bags have steel brackets on the back of them.. Bubbasbrake.com has a heritage detach kit, I believe. You might not care for the bags being further out from the fender strut as result. Also, I think someone else showed me a while back that the heritage struts and strut cover have an extra stud mount for heritage bags that is covered up on the fatty.. So you might run into trouble there.. I'd hold one up to your scoot to find out if it'll fly or not.

Alternatives.. hmmm.. for $500ish.. For that amount, I'd throw in leatherworks bags for a little competition.. Pro's.. probably a good bit better leather, option for cargo straps ontop, made to work with easybrackets for easy fatboy mount-up.. Con's, you gotta move the taillights to mount the larger bags still, and you're really looking at more around $6-700ish.. but made very well from what I've read/seen online.

I wrestled with all these choices and bit the bullet and went with the best I could find, with disregard to quick detachability...

Hope all this helps. TGIF!

Fatboy has 200 rear tire on 17 inch rims (f/r). Heritage has 150 rear on 16 inch rims (f/r). You can do a spec comparison on the hd website and show fatboy/heritage/road king side by side.

One of the things I like about the Fatboy is that it only takes a few seconds to go from stripped down cruiser mode to touring mode.

But I'm sure this would apply to any Harley if you added the quick disconnect windshield, bags, and backrest/storage rack.

Take it from someone who has spent a couple of thousand dollars to dress my 06 Softail Standard with all of the bells and whistles that is stock on the Heritage. Think about how you want to ride your bike. Long distances, short? Do you think you'll be riding in areas where a windshield is a must? Are you planning to ride two up and need saddlebags?

If I had it to do all over again, I'd have never bought my standard. I would have gone with the Heritage or Street Glide. I'm happy with my bike, but it's cost $$$$ to get it there.

Here's my '07 Heritage with, thanks to Bubba's, all the extras removed. I have been thinking about changing to a FB front fender just to be different.
