Default ckutch adjustment

My girlfriend just bought a 1994 883 Sportster as her first bike. It seems that starting it in 1st gear the bike scoots forward. The reason she starts it in 1st is because neutral is almost impossible to find. Is there a simple solution that someone non-mechanical such as myself can do?

Put it in neutral after the engine is shut off. If the bike is new, give it a thousand miles or so.

that does sound like a clutch adjustment.

pretty easy to do, tho i havent played with a sporty in a while and my book is currently out on loan, so cant give you a step by step.

just remember to adjust it when it is cold

After you shut it off, it doesn't even want to let you pull the lever up at all.

Adjust the clutch properly, also the shift linkage may need adjustment to find neutral easier.
