After installing the new speedo/tach assy i noticed that the Batt Icon doesn't light for a bulb check when turning the ign to the on position, also checked with the run position on and off also. The thing is, i never noticed on the original speedo cluster if it actually worked like a cager batt warning light. I looked through my owners manual and it gives every function of every other light, cel, fuel, oil, turn, hi beam etc.. but not the batt icon. Even looked in the actual service manual and i can't find anything there. I stopped by my local dealer where i got the speedo from and they were like me, i dunno, never noticed or paid attention to it. so we started cycling all the ign sw's on softails on the showroom floor and are 13' models with B-CAN systems but none of those light either with the key on.
so my questions are, has anyone paid attention and see if their batt light comes with just turning the key on that has an orig speedo on an 07 and up softail ? and how do you know if theres a problem in the charging system if the light doesn't come on during the normal bulb check with just the ign on. i mean the charging system may not be working right and you wouldn't know if the bulb/led didn't work in the first place. i know in the end i guess it doesn't really matter since obviously my charging system works ok because the original batt lasted 6 yrs.
I stopped back by the dealer today and the head tech was there and he said.. hold in on trip button turn ign on and all lights go through a bulb test.. whether you have the option or not.. meaning abs, 6th gr light, security etc..
