P0118 ET Sensor Voltage Open/High EFI
Symptom: After riding at a constant throttle for a while and letting off, the bike will shut off. Opening the throttle causes it to back-fire (seems to be rich, dark exhaust) to clear its throat (it takes a little bit), restarts, and then will continue to run fine until the next episode. If you are stopping, it shuts off.
I was told it could be a fueling problem (i.e. hole in fuel line in tank). Does this make sense?
Any thought or help would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Since the people who run this site have deemed it unacceptable to post informational links from other forums, you will need to preceed the above links with www . v-twinforums . com (no spaces) then copy and paste the above. ****** ridiculous, but such is life.
A google search with those codes will reveal many alternative sources for info.
Some other things to consider once you've checked all of the above.
It could be a fuel delivery issue. Does it act up regardless of the level of fuel in the tank? Generally a fuel line hole (pretty common) will not present itself on a full tank. Only when the level falls below the pin hole in the line will the pump start to suck air. Fairly easy to diagnose, toughest part is getting the pump out of the tank. Once the pump assembly is out, inspect the lines for rubbing (you'll see flats on the corrugations) and look for pin holes at the rub spots. You'll most likely know immediately though, once you remove the pump any gas still in the line will dribble out the holes.
I recently had a stalling on decel issue that ended up being speed sensor related. Do your turn signals still self cancel? If not, speed sensor is most likely your culprit. It sits on top of the trans on the right side of the bike. One bolt removes it and you can inspect for debris over the sensor. It's basically a magnet that senses the passing cogs on the 4th gear and sends the pulses to the ECM which translates that frequency into a speed. If its covered in metal shavings, or just plain malfunctioning, it can cause stalling on decel as well as causing sigs to not cancel as they normally would.

It's refreshing to see someone reply to a post with useful pertinent information. To many times I see endless replies which have nothing to do with the original question. Good on you.
