im new to HD and new to this forum so please be patient with me. Just got my first Harley about a week ago and I love it. The more I look at it, I keep finding things with it that I'm not too thrilled about. So I find my self wondering if i got screwed because I don't know much about what to look for. I think the rear rotor is warped because it rubs but not evenly. The front pad closest to the wheel rubs pretty evenly all the time, its almost annoying. I took the caliper off and removed the pads and tried to clean best I could but no change. Looks like I might have to take apart the caliper and do a deep cleaning. Now to my question, when i put the caliper back on the bike i noticed that the rotor didn't sit in the middle of the caliper as I would have expected, instead it appears that the rotor is closer to the inside of the caliper making contct with the pad. when I squeeze the brake I can see the to outer pistons moving and even see the pistons, but the inside ones barely move. If I were to put new pads and they would have the same about of brake material , how would it sit? The inside pad would just constantly rub until its worn out? any info would be greatly appreciated.
I have researched the issue and plan on doing all the work on the Harley myself. I know cars and have worked on them for a while. I just had a simple question about the caliper thats all. I am well aware of GOOGLE and how to use it and how to research, but i was not able to find my answer. Thanks for the helpful information.
Don't sweat the thread police, or the famous "do a search" response. If all people did was search there would be no forum. All harley brakes rub. Jack bike up and just make sure wheels spin freely. If they do just ride it. If your wheels dont spin freely id check bearings and end play on bearings/spacers. Make sure bearings are centered or installed correctly. If rotor was wrapped you'd feel it when braking. Good luck.
