Your wife loses any weight and she'll be thinner than the jiffy stand!

I guess when some people have nothing better to do or they think they are superior to others and they then come on sites like this and attack people or make really stupid remarks. For the person who commented on "Fat *** people", well, again someone talking behind the safety and anonymity of a computer screen. I would suggest caution with such talk though. 1st, I think the majority of people who rides a Harley and more so those into their middle ages probably carry around a little extra weight. I also think not many of them would be too forgiving if an idiot came up and said that to them in person or God forbid to their Ol lady's, they would probably tear that persons *** off. I myself am a good 30 lbs. extra! Also, save your time trying to pull me into further discussions with you. I'm not big on this commenting when sitting home when on a computer. 2nd and more important if people are just commenting on the air ride just being for raising and lowering their bike they probably have not had it long enough to fully grasp and understand its complete function. Yes, I ride solo and slammed 95% of the time. I am sure now that I am putting the 39"'s on I may have to ride it a little higher when in town to keep my pipes from dragging when going in and out of driveways and parking lots. It also really eats up bad roads. My bike would sway back and forth when in a deep crack that you often see on the roads. I can now put my bike in the crack on purpose and I can 1 hand the bike and not even feel it. I also have the Progressive monotubes in up front and the ride with those 2 suspension mods makes this bike ride like no other that I have ever had and I have had many over my 40+ years of riding. Having said that I have also had the misfortune of having been put in 2 really bad situations on this bike because of cagers since I made these mods and had I had my stock suspension I am sure my front wheel would have locked up, it start to slide out from underneath me and causing that to force the real wheel to come around on me and I would have gone down. These 2 suspension mods gave me superior "bad situation" control over my bike. So, in short there are more than 1 reason or purpose for the Air ride and in particular the Shotgun Shock than just lowering of the bike. It also comes with a lifetime warranty and the customer service is like no other vendor you will come across. Yes, it's a pretty penny but I have yet to see 1 person say it wasn't worth it, well, other than klf33 and I think most of his issues are due to his bike and still being new with the product. klf33, I'm not calling you out on this so don't jump me, it's just an honest observation and I think when you get the bugs worked out you will end up being very happy with your bike and your air ride system. I also have no ties to this company and in no way do I receive any benefits for supporting this product. I do think JD is a great guy with a great product but that is where it ends for me. I hope you make the right choice for you and your Ol lady and keep us all posted on what you decide to go with. OH, and hey Warp factor, with ALL do respect I think your ol lady's *** looks just fine the way it is on that bike while going down the road, IMHO that is! I honestly do say that with all due respect and I only say it to counter the really dumb comment made about weight.

LOL, apologies for messin' with vizcarmb a little bit, but a guy living in San Jose (I lived there for a short time) probably has no clue about how bad roads get in states like Michigan, with frequent freeze/thaw cycles.

I'd like to thank everyone who has contributed, and please, keep the suggestions coming.

Messing with him was actually cool on your behalf, where I come from people suffer a lot more for much less offensive remarks LOL.. thank God I am now a civilized Canadian.

But for the Record, I am 177 and my wife is around 135 too just like you guys and with the stock height and stock suspension we were OK, it was a lot better with the 422's for sure.

do not feed the trolls

  3. People who change riding styles from canyon aggressive to slow cruising often.
Thanks to all who answered my comparison question. I'll be upgrading the stock shocks on my '07 Fatboy either later this year or early next.

Based on the above, here's my dilemma. I have no interest in lowering the bike; stock is fine. The 422's with the remote preload adjustment seem to be easy enough to change settings when going between solo and two up. And the last time I rode "canyon aggressive" was so long ago. Add to that the added complexity of an air/compressor system.

All that said, I'm sure the Shotgun has a better, more refined ride.

So the trade off seems to be added cost and complexity vs. a superior ride.

For me, the ideal would be an air shock without the built in compressor. Does anyone make air shocks without the built in compressor?

Excellent,
I am sure you will find a used set of 422's here and there on the classifieds section here, they usually go mid to high 200's which is significant cost drop over Air or even New 422's with remote adjuster.
But if your wife rides with you Often (on and off) then maybe the remote adjuster would be worth it.

And please , give the stock a chance, at stock height you and your wife together are probably the same weight as some of the big guys that handle the bike without problem, try adjusting them it will not be perfect but will make a difference for sure.

I’m still curious whether anyone has put in a larger, softer bumpstop. If the details were worked out well enough, that would give a two-stage suspension, with the second stage (which begins once you start compressing the bumpstop) being progressive.
