78 Sporty, my first H.D. Was chained up outside my girls apartment, all that was left was the cut chain. About a year later I got a letter from the Cicero Illinois P.D. they found it!! what I picked up from them was a frame, and two milk crates of misc parts.

Never had one stolen or knew of one stolen personaly.

I just think how lucky i am about that. Most times i go riding i dont even take the keys. That means if i stop somewhere i cant lock it or turn alarm on.

I must be to trusting.

I think if you order new cases or a new frame from Harley you should have to turn in your old stuff. That would help some.

20 years or so ago I had a Jap bike stolen in El Paso. I called the cops and they told me it was in Mexico 10 minutes after it left the parking space so good luck. Bad part is I was a young SPC4 and it was my only transportation.

I've never had a problem with any of my bikes, however my brother is a different story. He had his 2000 RG stolen from our shop, right after he had a 95 kit installed. Not a happy boy. Theyear prior,my bros.sold a guy his Ultra Classic. Delivered it to the guys place & parkedit in the guys driveway. The buyer told my brother he would give him a ride home in his car, and he would then insure the bike on his way back home. My brother told him that he should park the bike in the garagewhile he was gone, but the new owner thought it was cool to leave the bike in the driveway, maybe so the neighbours would see his new scoot. Well once hegot home from dropping my brother off & picking up insurance, the bike was gone..... and never seen again, well at least not in one piece I'm guessing. The guy called my bros. as soon as he got home to see if he wasmessing with him.NO WAY! The guys insurance did cover it, but what a pisser. He never even got to ride the bike.

I used to volunteer as a motorcycle safety instructor with the local Safety Council, when I lived in Ottawa. The second year I taught ('02) one of my students (older gent, mid 50's, just getting back into riding after taking a break for a couple of decades...) arrived on the course site in a BEAUTIFUL pearl Yellow Fat Boy. He was even trusting enough to let me take it for a boot. (My first ride on not only a Fat Boy, but a Harley...) I was instantly in love! It was by far the most beautiful bike there that day. He told me during the crse he was the fleet mgr at a local Ford dealership. A couple of years later the wife and I were in the market for a new vehicle, and I looked him up. While we were wandering around the lot looking at vehicles, we (naturally) were talking bikes. I asked him how the gorgeous Fat Boy was doing. He told me it had been stolen the year before. He and his wife had gone on vacation down south, and he was so paranoid about leaving it in his garage while he was gone, he brought it into his HOUSE. 3 days into their vacation, the neighbours contacted them to let them know the house had been broken into. All they'd taken was his Fat Boy! I have to admit, I'm a little paranoid about this aspect of owning a Harley myself. I don't EVER plan on leaving it outside if I can possibly help it (out of sight, out of mind, hopefully...), and I'll definitely ALWAYS use the key, so when I'm out somewhere I can lock it and activate the alarm. Otherwise, what is the point of having it?

I insure the crap out of mine, park it where it's convenient and enjoy myself.
Can't waste time worrying about what if's.
