I have a 2009 deluxe and I want to try some apes, my question is: what bars(maybe some 12s) will I be able to try on without replacing the cables.
If you have done this in your bike can you post some pics?
In worst case scenario there is a set of takeoff heritage bars for $15 at the local HD that I will give a try after I black them out, I was just hoping there maybe other options out there.
I am 5'6" and when I sat in the heritage at the dealership they felt ok, I could go maybe 2" higher, that is why I think I should stay in that range.
I had Heritage bars on my '08 Deluxe. At 5'9", they were too short for me. I put 16" Chubbies on and they feel super. Did an iron butt run to SoCal (750 miles in 11 hours) and the ride was comfortable the entire way. The Heritage bars worked with the stock lines/cables. You might be able to squeeze an extra inch or two with some taller risers. So, if you're trying to stay on the cheap, I'd get the $15 bars and see how you like them. After a month or so, you'll have a better feel for what would work for you (and mayboe the $$$ to get it). HTH.
Before you do that check your state regs about handle bar height restrictions there are still some states that like to stick it to ya when it comes to that. yzergod very nice bike man!
Being 5'9" like yzergod I also went with some 12" mini apes on my Deluxe.
Got them off my freinds RK
The only cables I had to replace where the throttle cables got those from Drag Specialtys for 129 bucks.
Must say with my short reach they fit perfect and actually look pretty good on the bike.
See lame cell phone sig pic.
