Default Floor Boards

Just purchased 2008 Heritage Softail Classic, and someone told me that the floorboards should fold up under pressure.
Is this true. Mine will not move when I lift on them.
Also why should they fold?

Thanks
Balloo

When you make sweeping turn and your leaning the bike, the floorboards will scrap sometimes. Try removing them then reinstalling them to the proper torque specs. They might be over tightened or road grime.

The boards serve two purposes. 1. A place to rest your feet and 2. a early warning system letting you know you are near your maximum lean angle. In a turn as you lean more your boards will scrape and fold up before any of the hard parts of the bike. ie pipes, primary case, frame and so on. If those parts hit ground chances are that you will to. They should have lock nuts holding them on you should loosen them enough so you can move them up with out to much effort.

On a related note, has anyone welded soft iron strips to the underside of them to make beautiful sparks at night?

Surprisng what a little petroleum product application will do for rusted and sticking parts. Yes, they should move.

Speaking of sparks....soft iron will only give you small orange sparks. If you want to show off, get some titanium plates, they put out large white sparks. Speaking from personal experience.

I have a set up on my Heritage that creates black and blue bruises on my shoulders. When I scrape the boards, my wife reacts by smackin' me in the shoulder. No sparks, but effective.
