What makes you think that?

The owner has passed on and the family is selling.. they thought it was a screaming eagle but the dealer said no. It was listed for $15k.. and now relisted.

All told Id have like $8500 into it Id guess. Could just put fatboy tins on it from ebay for $700.

I would think a stock 88 would have a hard time with a 6 speed. it has a couple thousand extras with it.

Is there anything I can look for to determine if it was done?

You know, Ive been researching 6 speeds and here is what I've come to understand:

1) you dont want to use 6th until you hit 70mph
2) you lose MPG in 6th..

I think 5th is the same as 5th in a 5 speed trans.. I think... 1:1 I think..

The loss of MPG might be because guys are shifting too early and lugging..

Id really like to know what to look for as far as a big bore... they have no receipts at this time. (though I may be able to get them at some point).

EDIT:
Table 1. Gear Ratios
GEAR STOCK 5-SPEED SE 6-SPEED
First 3.210 3.210
Second 2.209 2.209
Third 1.572 1.572
Fourth 1.226 1.226
Fifth 1.000 1.000
Sixth N/A 0.885
