is surface rust "normal" on chrome that isnt taken care of? does it "buff out"?
Hard to answer... some #0000 steel wool and any decent polish will fix almost anything... unless it's actually pitted into the chrome. Problem is that it's symptomatic of a lack of pride of ownership.
And...
For the record, I f-ing love my 6 speed. totally worth it.
Don't even consider that rear-ended Heritage. With 55k miles, I'm guessing that price is just slightly under what a well used one would cost.
I'm not gonna scroll back and look for it... but what happened to the white one with the chrome swingarm... I think it was a widow that was selling it.

First thanks for the advice...
Yes, widow.. its carb'd and I really want FI.. I grew up with nothing but FI (Im 48).. I dont even know how to work on or tune a carb, and frankly, I dont want to know.. its old technology.. thats just my personal opinion..
And I dont think they were chromed swing arms.. but not sure.. probably covers.. you see covers all over the place...
On another note: can anybody identify the exhaust on the 2007 blue fat? 2 into 1.. screaming eagle?
EDIT: IF I go with the white, since its original owner I'll ask for paperwork on the oil changes which he said he ONLY does at the dealer.
Im feeling really good about the 6 speed blue... so unless you guys have something not so great to say Im leaning really hard there. I really like that deep cobalt, and the 6 speed I think would make cruising more comfy. We have a lot of 70mph stretches here in the carolina's.
If course face to bike tells a different story... but Im seeing it at 6pm.. owner is out of town and I talked him into having someone show it to me. I think, even with the miles, its worth $9500 if the paint is excellent.. and it runs good.. which it probably does.. someone put some miles it for a change and probably loved it.
Also, I just want to say thank you to ALL you guys for your input.. I dont know how Id do this otherwise.. I feel much more confident about this process... your input is invaluable.
I think the best advice was waiting for what really sings to me...

The colbalt blue 2006, I bet you could call the the local dealer and see if they put the tranny in, if so they may know if it is a 95." I am not sure how to tell without pulling a head. If it does not have a tuner on it then, then they could see what mapp it has in the ecm.
The white one with the small rust spots, looks nice but I do not like rust. Once it starts it always comes back, like cancer. if you have to use steel wool or something harsh to remove the rust it dulls the chrome. In the long rund you end up replacing the chrome, $$$.
The bike with the chrome swing arm were Kuryakyn covers.

Wow great advice all around.. I may not have the luxury if finding out before I buy if he takes a low price.. if he holds, I may take the time.. Either way, as I understand it, and I read the instructions to install, HD designed the SE 6 for a stock 88.. so, my guess is, harley pays its engineers pretty well...
One thing nice about the SE, that I guess is an issue with other transmissions.. is 6th is on the main shaft.. Unfortunately, 5th is on the countershaft.. so less efficient there.. and bearings under more stress.. so fifth is the weakest link. EDIT: nevermind.. I think I got all that wrong after looking closer...
Its also possible its just a SE 6 cover.. might be a five speed even!
