Default SHipping a Bike

Another question for our resident experts...

Searched the forums, and while I am pretty sure there's a thread or two on this subject - I can't seem to find the criteria it would be searchable under, so here goes:

Has anyone had a bike shipped from out of state? We're talking maybe 1300 miles or so - if it were less distance I would consider riding it back, but it will also probably be winter here in NY when I buy my bike, so riding really isn;t feasible (All you eskimo riders go ahead and call me soft).

So...if anyone has ever had a bike shipped - let me know what the experience was like - good bad, would do it agan - good carrier/bad carrier etc.

I'm finding that there is a lot more of what I am looking for down south (Florida to be specific), so I may end up flying down this winter, buying a bike and either have it shipped or have a buddy haul it back for me.

Thanks in advance for any advice/opinions on this subject...

JB

ScreaminEagle had a bike shipped from Florida to the Western USA. As I recall, he was satisfied with his experience. Maybe he will check in, or you might shoot him a PM. I'm sure he could help you out.

Regards,

Bill

I just had my last bike shipped to me from Cresaptown, MD. to Fresno, CA. It got here in one peice and in like 2-3 weeks. I looked all over the place for shippers too, and they all wanted like $1500, but these guys did it for only $600-. Fully insured, so if anything happened while shipping, they pay. If youre interested, the company is called Eagle One, and they specialize in shipping bikes. They are based out of Cali., but go all over the country.

Awesome...that's exactly the kind of feedback I have been looking for.

Much appreciated everyone - and if anyone else has any information/experience, please feel free to pass it on.

I'm with Joey on this one also. Eagle 1 Express shipped my 03 Fatboy for $555.00 from Minneapolis-St Paul to Columbus, Ohio back in May and I also highly recommend them. Their fuel surcharge may be higher now because of the rising costs. They ship only motorcycles and their transporters have 2 decks like a race car hauler. They pull them in side ways and secure them with 2 straps. Don't be surprised if people don't follow them in to your place and watch them load/unload. They have a website.

Thanks for the additional info...I really appreciate it.

I may very well end up finding the need for their services towards the end of the year...

I had my Nightrain shipped from Calgary, Alberta to Prince Edward Island,Canada.About 5000kms.The dealership shipped it in a well packaged crate however,I was promised that it would arrive in a week. After a week and a half,I called the stealership and I was informed they had no idea where the bike was,and had no idea how to find it.Pissed, I called the next day and was told that if I wanted to find it I could make a ton of calls and wished good luck. The bike arrived exactly 2 weeks later. This major stealership in Calgary is not on my good list.

Wow...I would be super-pissed if that happened to me. Did they offer to try and make things right at any time? Maybe a store credit or something? (I know - not a chance in hell).

This is great info to know! I too am thinking about possibly having a bike shipped late winter/early spring. As on ebay, most places say around $500 to ship, but after looking here, certainly I will need to look into it more when and if I go thatw ay.
Keep the info coming.
Maybe we shoudl start a list of good/bad shipeprs soemwhere?
