Default Help needed!! 23" front wheel question.

I have a 2008 Night Train. I just bought a 23" front wheel. Everybody keeps telling me that I have to rake out my bike before install. Is this true??

Not sure about on a Nightrain, but you can squeeze one into a Deluxe/Heritage/Fatboy and the Nightrain looks have more of a rake than them!, so I'd say no problem.

I would think it wouldn't be an issue, but if you haven't yet, ask this over in the night train pic thread. There's a few guys running them that could probably answer your question.

I too have an 08 train with a 23 up front... You do not need to rake the front. I even have my front end dropped 2" by way of progressive's drop in kit and have the stock trees still mounted. It is as simple if not simpler than installing an air cleaner on the bike.

Do you have any pics of your bike? I'd like to to get an idea of what it looks like. Do you get any handling problems at high speeds?

Here's my initial install thread. Pics do not show the bike with the front end lowered. Bike handles just fine, if not better than with the 21" that was on before. Turn in definitely feels more confident and road deviations are soaked up a bit better as well.

No offense to anyone who has raked their front end, but I was highly "encouraged" not to jack around with the rake because it messes with your trail calculations and can make the bike highly unstable at higher speeds. Klf33 experienced this first hand with his pro-one trees. It looks great, but is simply not necessary on the night train, even with 4" of total drop in the front end.

I've had my Slim w/ a 23 up to 110mph. No issues what so ever. You need to lower the front end though, other wise it will look like your pulling a wheelie.
