Default 03 Deuce rear Suspension

I recently got my Deuce running, and it does so like a boss, but the issue at hand now is the rear suspension. I have the manual and never having worked on a Harley, I am taking the bull by the horns but the manual is very vague on some things, and rear suspension happens to be one of them.

I understand how to adjust the shocks but am unclear on a couple things. The shocks are on a threaded shaft and as I understand I need to loosen the Jam Nut, and then adjust the shock based on the ride I'm looking for. Unfortunately this is a bit different for me since I have the Frankenstein kit on the back and I am wondering if the rear just needs to be off the ground, if so I am planning on buying a motorcycle jack to help me work on my bike.

Going back to the shock/jam nut, once I loosen the Jam Nut as I adjust the shocks is the whole threaded shaft supposed to turn or the shock itself?

Preload = Think of Righty Tighty Lefty Loosey, but from a reverse angle of eyesight. With the Jam nut loosened, hold the Shaft Stationary with a wrench. With the shock spanner wrench:

-Turn the adjuster plate Counter Clockwise to Increase the preload.

-Turn the adjuster plate Clockwise to Decrease the preload.

Note: The shock body will most likely turn with the adjuster plate. No problem.

I have photos which make this clear and understandable. Shoot me a mail at olongapo2@gmail.com
