Default 103 Engine Mods - How Crazy Can You Get While Using 91 Octane

Like the subject line says, what can I do to the 103 while still using 91 Octane?

Pretty annoyed with the power in 6th gear and want to wake the engine up. Right now everything is stock and I'm likely gonna pick up some Rush slip-ons from a guy selling them on Craigslist to hold me over until I determine what's the best thing to do. My budget is fairly large, but I'm not looking to race this thing or anything. So with that, besides an AC/Exhaust and Tune what recommendations can you good folks make.

Thanks for any help!

Cams are a popular choice

I went pretty much all out with mine. Pipes and tuning just isn't enough. I've got 107hp/115tq and now it feels slow again.
First off you need to determine your riding style. If you almost never get it up to 4500rpm and like to just cruise you want a torque stump puller type cam that makes its peak power in the rpm range you ride.
If your like me and like to wind it out crashing up and down thru the gears then you want a different kind of cam.
I've got the woods t6-6 and I couldn't be happier with the whole package.
2-1 pipes tend to make more power all the way thru the rpm range. I've got a pro pipe. It sounds awesome.
Headwork helps but once you start grinding out material you lose compression so you have to mill them down to regain that compression. I've got manual compression releases and starting the bike is a breeze and easy on the starter.
You gotta basically build the bike around your riding style. And don't keep track of how much you spent. Trust me. You'll be afraid to ride it.

I never mash the RPM's past 3200 and mostly want torque on acceleration throughout the gears. Don't plan on racing at all, just want the bike quicker when I turn the throttle.

Based on what you said you will probably be happy with a good Stage 2 package - A/C, Pipes, Tuner and Cams. Look into getting everything matched tto get the best results.

call Jamie at Fuel Moto and he can give you some great info and provide all of the parts too.

If it were me for a strong, clean running and reliable daily rider Id go FM Billet A/C, FM head stainless cermanic pipe with jackpot tuned mufflers, SE 204 cams and a Power Vision, properly tuned on a 103 you will have good power from idle to 600rpm and should easily be over 100/100 mark from what Ive seen on dyno sheets.

Go to the bottom of this page and see dyno results (2nd one) it is dyno of stock 103 compared to a 103 with A/C, pipes, Tuner and cams http://www.fuelmotousa.com/site/performance-cams.html

I used the SE 204 in my 95 ci Fatboy and they were a great cam, when I have the time and $ to do the Road Glide that will be the cam Ill add.

You have a stage 2 96ci.

Stage 1 = AC, pipes and tuner or Down load ECM MAP
Stage 2 = Stage 1 plus cams
Stage 3= Stage 1, Stage 2 and heads

All can be applied to any engine size

intake, exhaust, tune, heads and cams, or stage 3 as they call it. I would not touch bore unless you have the crank tuned. Have the cams picked to the flow of the heads, compression and where you want it to come alive rpm wise.

You may just start with the stage one and go from there. I was really surprized how much quicker my FB was through the whole range Even in 6th gear doing 75 I can crack the throttle and it takes off. That's with a FuelPak and canned map. Since you're not sure how far you want to go, you may want to get a tuner that will integrate with stage 2 and beyond. That's not a FuelPak. A Power Commander is a good choice.

Some great gouge here. With that, who would you trust to install this stuff? HD here in San Diego won't install this stuff because of CARB requirements so that is not an option, not that I'd pay those labor rates anyway.

Curious who to trust to do these mods to my 103.
