Hey Dick looks like you are having a not so great time, here is what iI did , first i already had lowered the rear using a white bros lowering kit , it dropped about 1.5 inches ,again this was before when I still had the 150 on back, when I got to your point of the build I undid the shocks and taped a 5/8 inch piece of garden hose length wise down the wheel ,then I placed the fender on the hose , then before making any marks, Bolt the struts on, put the seat in place ,move fender tight up to seat and move untileverthing lines up correctly then stick seatmake sure to get suction cups down , that way the front part of your fender will be at the right spot and angle, when your satisfiied with that then mark and drill fender, you can see what kind of clearance I had before I installed the legend air ride was maybe 1.75 inches , looked ok but really rode hard before air ride. in my signature I have the airride installed go to my gallerry for install pics without air ride. I hopes this helps , if not keep Pm me . Good Luck

Success! I finally got the fender in a good position. I also tested my idea of mounting the LED lights on that one exposed hole at the rear of the fender struts and it works perfectly. Oh, happy day!

Thanks for the advice, Fatboy. I think I'm going to put an air ride on mine, too. I've heard that it really helps with the look as well as a smoother ride.

I think I'm going to put some apes on there. I love the NYC Choppers mini-apes in either black or copper. I thought it might be cool to do my lines and other small accents in copper or brass if I'm going flat black with the rest of my bike.

Okay, so I'm home for lunch. I hooked up my new Ultima Big Growl exhaust last night and was waiting for today to start it up (it was late last night and I figured the neighbors wouldn't appreciate me waking them up).

Note to Self: Don't start exhaust while still in basement.

Holy christ that thing is loud! But mannnn does it sound good! Deep, throaty and that good *chug chug chug chug* sound. I don't have the time to really play right now, but when I get home from work I think it's time to take my new fat rear end and noise makers for a test run around the block. WHEE!

Looking good dick
The only thing I could notice is that your fender should go a
little forward towards the seat and then rotate it more downwards towards the splashguard.

I thought that, too. However, when I set the fender like that, it had the problem of being too high again. I actually kinda like giving it that little bit of clearance. It'll keep it off of the paint, but still secure and in place. I'm thinking about modifying that little metal piece that slides in the front to get it to seat properly, though. That's the only thing I can think of to keep the fender as-is and drop the seat in.

I test rode it a little while ago. I just went about a mile down and turned around and came back. It looks and rides good. Definitely will take some getting used to. My girlfriend followed me in her car just to be sure nothing went wrong. She said it looked good from the back - no rubbing or wobble or anything like that. The new exhaust lives up to its name - "Big Growl". The belt has a very small clearance from the frame and tire. That's the only thing that has me a little leery. I know that I was told it would have small tolerances, but I just want to be sure. While riding I didn't hear any rubbing or feel anything, so I guess that's a good sign.

I can't wait to see her all painted up. Glad to hear she rides good
and all. Another thing I noticed. The contour from the bottom of
your fender matches the contour of the rim perfectly. You must
have mesured the fender to the wheel about 50 times right.
Good job man.

Yeah Dick its lookin good, glad to be of help . you will have very minimal clearance of the belt to the frame , about 1/8 inch but mine has never rubbed in over 6000 miles , I wouldnt sweat it to much, but like me , you still need to keep a close eye on it. I have to agree with Canuck on the fender placement it does seem to be a bit off , a little more forward and down , but if its where you want it then whos to say but you. Again you will love the attention it grabs, and after you get about 25 miles on her it will seem very comfortable to you, just slow down in some of the corners a little. I used a Legend air ride and it works really good , pull up in front of a bar ( crowd ) and slam it down the crowd loves it, when you are ready to ride pump it back up and go, love it.

Not much else to update at this point. Last night I started disassembly. I'm sending my tank and fenders to my cousin. Instead of paint, I'm getting the tins powdercoated a flat black similar to the denim black on newer Harleys. I'm sending my exhaust to be Jet-Hot coated flat black. That'll take about a week or so to get back. While it's out I'll work on wiring new lights and cleaning up all the hidden parts to keep myself busy.

I had to pick up a service manual at lunch today so I can figure out how to get the guts out of the tank without breaking anything. I'll keep this thread updated as things happen.
