I wonder if the aviation style pop vents would help eliminate the neg pressure behind the windshield? I know vetter used to use them on some fairings and windshields.
Been a long time since I've had a bike with a windshield. I'm pretty used to the wind buffetting and I've never had issues with headaches or anything. I do notice my helmet makes a big difference. My head doesn't get tossed around nearly as much with my low profile half helmet and my full face. I had a half helmet that was wider that knocked my head around a little more.
No windshield for me. I think on my bike, it just wouldn't look right. On dressers/touring bikes, they look natural. But IF I got one, it'd be like a Street Glide, more fairing and a little windshield.
I had the standard 18" king on my Heritage and had terrible buffetting issues. I traded that for a Klockwerks Billboard and no more problems. It is a bit wider than the HD shield and the curve at the side and top create a nice smooth wind pattern.
I tried fangs and vests and blah blah blah. The Billboard worked for me. My fairing is still my favorite though. Open the vents at the side a bit and it disrupts the wind behind it. As said above, you can't beat the tunes for the long highway cruises either.
same prob with me. Get a headache after 3-4 hours of high speed. Friend let me put his lowers(fangs) on my heritage....stopped the buffing and no more headache. I bought some lowers at the Bowling Green HD & put them on in the parking lot.
By fangs do you mean wind reflectors like those below?
I guess I'm just an old dude, I can't travel without a shield. I take too much of a beating without one, it tiring hanging on for hours. I look over my shield and it's stock height.
Just my 2 cents....
I put one on this year hoping to add some cold weather riding time. Good thing it is detachable because as soon as it warmed up I took it off. The wind kind of came from behind me, the preasure difference bothered my ears, and passing a truck on a windy day was almost a death wish.
Nothing against them or those who like/use them but when I took it off and went for a ride I remember sayig to myself that this is riding, for me using the shield was just driving..

Ditto...I've never taken the shield off my Heritage...it's the stock shield, measures 17 1/2 " over the headlight.
I have some buffeting, but not bad at all. I tried the new style HD fangs and didn't notice much of an improvement at all except more engine heat. I'm keeping the fangs to put on the bike for cold weather riding.
