Default For Only The Second Time...I Need Opinions!

Hey Gang,

Modding my scoot has usually been something pretty personal and for the most part I have gone with what I liked without so much as a thought to what others might think. I did once ask about my beach bars and whether I should have left them chrome or PC'd them black. Funny thing is, I posted that question being 99% certain what I was going to go with. I guess I was just wondering if someone out there would have some sort of opinion or input that might have swayed me in the other direction. Didn't happen...

So here I am again. I want to swap out the speedo on my Bones for something a little more "nostalgic" without breaking the bank and keeping the swap simple. My initial thought was that I would swap my stock speedo with that of a Softail Deluxe. While searching the net for one to purchase I happened upon the speedo off a 2009 Heritage Softail Classic and I thought that it had a very nice classic look to it as well. The more I looked at it, the more I thought that might work as well. Now I am about 50/50 on which one I want to go with aided by the fact that I have found one of each for sale at a very reasonable price. Provided that these will swap out onto my 08 Bones with no issues, which do you guys think I should go with? Look at the photos below and give feed back. I've included a photo of my Crossbones as it looks today so that you all get a better idea of why I want to go for a different look than my stock version.

MY CROSSBONES...

View of my console with current stock speedo...

Option A: Stock speedo off a Softail Deluxe FLSTN. This was my first choice.

Option B: Stock speedo off a Heritage Softail Classic. This one caught my eye as well.

The idea is to find something that is a little more retro to go with the new look of my Bones. If your opinion is based on info other than just which speedo you like better (such as you've seen some classic Harleys with a similar speedo, etc.) then please share the info!

Thanks,

Skeez

The FLSTN speedo looks most retro to me. Though I think the softie classic speedo might actually look best in your bike.

That said, your stock speedo actually looks pretty retro too housed in the cateye.

I'm probably of no help, diggin all the speedometers you've shown. Maybe you could get someone to photoshop the three different ones for you. Folks have done that for me on this site.

Nice bike, by the way. I see we share taste in grips.

Ah. Correcting myself here. I didn't realize you had a white ornament on your front fender.

Speedo A for sure, to match up a bit with it.

That's actually the plastic lens of a fender light. It looks more orange-ish when it's on. Funny thing is I never liked the fact that those lenses where white. I would have liked it more in an amber or orange color. I see your point about finding something to tie the look of the speedo with.

Thanks!

Oh...

One other thing I guess I should mention; if things go according to plan, I will be painting my tins a bright red color including the Cat Eye console. The photo below and several others have been my inspiration for that choice. I think when I picture my scoot in that bright red is when I envision the FLSTN speedo fitting the part better with its white on black accent.

The Deluxe one has more black in it that to me matches the overall "blacked out" feel of your bike. So...
