My two previous bikes were Road Kings, an '09 RKC and a'12 RK. I really liked both the bikes and miss them a lot. Thing is, I'm an old guy and it was getting to be a hassle to duck walk the RK out of the garage. Also, I don't take long trips any more and my wife pretty much quit riding with me. So, about two months ago I traded my RK in on a '13 Deluxe. I am really enjoying riding again, 2000 miles in two months. Life is good!
Gratzz on the new ride, from one old guy to another I know exactly what you mean, I have a 1995 Standard Dresser that I duck walk backwards out of the garage.
I refuse to sell it tho, so as a compromise to myself I bought a new 2013 Softail Slim for short hauls, I still take the Dresser for long hauls, and as you my better half has pretty much quit riding with me.
Glad to hear you like the new bike. I'm gonna retire at the end of the year and have thought about the softails too. I've got the streetglide now, but something lower would be good. Wife not riding much with me either. Anyway, glad you like the new Deluxe (that would be my pick of bike too!).

That's awesome that you are enjoying your new ride. As a former tourer owner I can relate. Their is nothing that Harley or anyone can make that's more comfortable for long distance riding than my ultra limited was especially two up; however, for back roads and cities it was not ideal. My wife actually rides with me more because she could not take the vibrations at idle on the tourers but now she can ride all day and not complain about fatigue from the vibrations. I do mostly city and back road riding anyway so the heritage is perfect for me. It still amazes me how easy and fun to ride softails are. I absolutely love my heritage and couldn't imagine a bike being more enjoyable to ride.
I had a 2006 road king classic. I have a 2011 deluxe now. I love my deluxe but miss the road kings saddle bags room. But I wanted a more cleaner look. Congrats on the new bike.
When I sold my '96 Wide Glide, my intent was to buy a bagger... I went with my heart and bought a Deluxe. Couldn't be happier... Great ridin' motorcycle!
