Default Headlight up-grade

I would like to have a better headlight on my Slim than the stock item. In looking around I see all these expensive replacements and can't believe that a better light can't be had for less money. Am I missing something here or is there reasonably priced bulbs available that don't cost an arm and a leg ?

A few people here including myself have done the hid conversion for less then 50 bucks. Do a search and there are a couple good threads on it.

Or the truck lite phase 7 led for $200 is also a plug and play option.

I was going to get the Truck Lite, until I read they don't offer it in a 5" version. So it's the "arm and a leg" version or nothing for me.

Reposting this from a previous headlamp/bulb upgrade thread. Too lazy to re-type this **** out.

If you have the 5.75" headlamp you should have lots of H4 headlamp options. I recently switched to this Hella e-code H4 on my Deuce and even with a "stock" 55/60w bulb the night time visibility has dramatically improved.

HELLA 002850001 135mm 60/55 Watt H4 Type Single High/Low Beam Headlamp : Amazon.com : Automotive

If you've never seen a proper, non-DOT spec H4 headlamp in action, the fluting is far superior. The cut-off line for the light is crisp, and the road-side illumination for signs, etc is great. Way better than the foggy cloud of light you get from DOT spec garbage.

There are 7" round versions as well, and many manufacturers. Marchal, Cibie, Hella, Bosch...hell even the knock-off brands like Autopal and DJ Auto are better than DOT, in my opinion.

I have been real happy with it. I did install a toggle switch on the hot after a weeks of running it so I can shut the light off when starting. Before the switch I had no problems. Not sure if I needed it or not because I don't run aux lights but just to be on the safe side

One thing to consider - The Hella European spec 5.75" Hi/Low lamp is meant to be used with their Hi only lamp in a 4-lamp system, and as such, will not do the same heavy lifting on hi-beam as a true motorcycle Hi/Low lamp. I chose the Daymaker for my Breakout, and I've spent 20 years with Hella 4-bulb Euro spec headlights.
