Default Stage 1 Suggestions

I am working on acquiring the parts for a Stage 1 upgrade for my 2008 Heritage Classic FLSTC. I have ordered my new pipes (V&H BP 2 into 1 Pro Pipe) and the air intake (Cobra Power Flo kit). Also, ordered the exhaust gaskets - last time I did an exhaust upgrade, I forgot those little buggers!

Still looking for two more parts:

1. Looking for options for a fuel mgmt system. I was looking at the DynoJet Power Commander V-EX. Motorcycle Superstore says it fits my bike, but J&P Cycles says it doesn't! I am not married to this model - any advice or recommendations would help. How much difference between units? Should I spend $$ for quality or are they all basically the same?

2. With the new pipes, I want to get some passenger floorboards. Don't want the OL's boot marks on new pipes, due to the stock footpegs! Some suggestions would be great, and do I need any additional brackets/etc, to mount it around the pipes?

I plan on installing everything and then taking it to a local dyno shop, to tune it.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Update - I found rear floorboards, so now I am really just looking for information on a fuel mgmt system.

PowerVision with auto-tune pro. Skip the dyno and let the bike tune it's self...

If you just really want a dyno tune, Screaming Eagle Race Tuner is a great tuner, but there are a bunch of choices. I have SERTs for both my bikes, but if I had it to do over again I'd o with an auto tuner.

I've had my PCV about 3 years, not the latest FMS by any means, but I'm real happy with it. Bike runs great, decent mileage, no problems with it at all.

Thanks for the suggestions. I found this one, which is pretty cheap: V&H Fuel Pak for $245

From research online, it appears to be simple to self-program. Thoughts?

Talk to Jamie at FuelMoto before you get the Fuelpak.

I have the pc v on my slim and I'm really happy with the results. The maps you get from fuel moto are pretty well done. No dyno on my bike. I know a lot of guys here like to jump on the PV with autotune but that seems like overkill to me if you're just doing stage one. That's where I'm stopping with mine; I just wanted my bike to run less lean and get good gas mileage.

I had the SEPST on my nighster and that thing ran flawless. I did dyno that bike.

I haven't heard a lot of great things about the fuelpak. I love the V&H pipes but sounds like they missed the mark with the fuelpak.

Ask the technician at the place you were planning to have the work done what tuner they prefer.

Thanks, guys for the thoughts.

I am going to do the work myself, so I don't have a technician to ask.

I don't know anyone who has personal experience with the Fuelpak, but the reviews on the Motorcycle Superstore seem pretty good:

I'm definitely with QC on this, consult with the guys at FuelMoto before you make any decisions. I would recommend their FuelMoto EFI tuner which is basically a rebranded PCIII. I have one on my 07 deluxe and am very happy with it. They are actually on sale right now for $219 + shipping. I think a FuelPak is ok, but the FM EFI tuner gives you a lot more tuning capability. For example, the FuelPak allows you to adjust the AFR only, whereas the FM EFI tuner adjusts the AFR as well as ignition timing. Makes a huge difference. If you call them, they can actually send you the tuner already dialed in to your bike and your specific set up, therefor eliminating the need for a dyno tune ($$$) which I don't think is necessary with just a stage1 anyways.

Just my $.02
