Wife has an 07 softail classic. The stock windshield wastall so she got the MS replacement for $85. Then we added the HD lowers and with a slight change in the mount angle, it took care of her problem. On my Honda 1800 VTXR I couldn't find a set of lowers that solved the problem, so I had to make a set. It took some trial and error, but it worked out great. I've had several ask where I bought my lowers. Use streamers to help you follow the air flow, then make deflectors try to move the air so it exits behind you. Once you get something that works, you can design and fabricate mounting brakets. Lexan works great for the deflector. It can be shaped with a high heat gun. Take the time to polish the edges as this gives it a nicer finished look.
Bought the Softail Chrome Wind Deflectors today - 4th HD Dealer I called had them in stock. Will install today and update this page after a test ride - when the New England weather breaks.
Well now that I sold that bike and now have a heritage with stock windsheild and the metal deflectors that go down each side of the front forks!!!! THIS IS NIGHT AND DAY DIFFERENCE O my god they really work !!! Trust me I no what its like to ride with no wind at all from the wing !!!
I am almost ready to pull the trigger.Do you have a closeup pic of the install what it looks like on your bike?
Not yet, intermittent raining out. I've quickly looked at how install should go. Hopefully it will be a lot simplier than atfirst glance - I don't think it will be terribly difficult but the directions don't show the orientation of the deflectors - and pg321 of the 2007 catalog doesn't really show what you need to see to help with the install. We'll see.
When I put my windshield and sissy bar on, two things are for sure 1) the wife is close by 2) I feel like I have a different bike, I also note that people seem to check my bike out but if I have it in "mid-dress" it seems as if it doesn't get a second look.
Just finished messing with the Wind Deflectors for the last 90 minutes. The instructions suck and needless to say I didn't get anywhere.
It's an extremely tight fit around the turning blinker. I can't keep the bottom of the wind deflector from hitting it, and I can't move the deflector around any to force it into place. I guess I'll mess with it some more tomorrow.
Be especially careful you don't strip the bolts as you're trying to get them in!
It will somehow bolt up to the existing two holes, although there are 3 holes in the deflector - I guess to accomodate rigid mount windshields.
The instructions don't tell you the shield orientation but it's not too difficult to figure out. The 2007 HD catalog pg 321 isn't the same deflector for the 2007 FLSTC. Both sides are giving me a fit. The back of the turn signals are what's keeping me from being able to line up the deflector to the windshield bracket. If I could move the turn signals a bit forward it would go on easily.
