It's simpler than that.... no need for a threaded insert. It's a through-bolt with a nut on the other end.

My guess is somebody over-torqued the chit out of it, to spread the ends of the holes like that.

Id get my money back if I could.. however.. you bought it as is used I assume.. po maybe didnt know about it. Dont assume he did... in fact, you have no proof..

Sorry this happened man... keep your chin up.. smile, and move forward. I bet its a nice bike. If the motor has to come out its an opportunity to detail it and your frame.. Maybe do the jugs gotta love jugs right?
That area is the front motor mount The bolt comes thru the frame tab, all the way thru the cast drilled boss on both halfs of the motor and thru the frame tab on the other side with a nut on it.

dang, this sucks. Hopefully it's not a huge deal. Is there a torque spec for that bolt? Anyone know any good tig welders in the Dallas area?

Another option is to sleeve it. Or, ride it til it breaks completely. How many miles are on it?

Talked to po, and he had no idea about the cracks. He seems like an honest man, and I'm not going to give him a hard time about. This is my problem to deal with, so all your help is appreciated and any direction on who to contact would be awesome. I talked with the Harley dealership in Allen and Garland, and neither of them could suggest a welder. They said if a cracked case came to them, they'd replace the cases. And if they were going to replace the cases, it would make sense to do the Harley Reman program.

I dunno, while knowing the case is broken would eat at me as well, if otherwise the bike is in good running condition and trying to do a fix would be too expensive for me right now, I'd probably just keep riding til I could afford to fix it properly. 18,000 miles is pretty light mileage for an 8 year old bike. My guess is it has been this way for quite a while, maybe since new. JMHO. Good luck with whatever you decide. Tough break. I hope you got it for a decent price anyway.

I hear you, and that may be just what I do. I'm really **** about my stuff though, so this crack is going to eat me up until I can fix it. The price was definitely right.
