Default Dual bulb headlight

I read all the old posts about lighting but I didn't see where anyone actually bought the dual bulb upgraded headlight. I have a 03 fatboy and want more light. It's about $130 so I would like to know before I pop for it. Anybody bought one and is it considerably better or should I just go get a silverstar?

I would go for the Silverstar, if for no other reason than it may be all you need.
They are very good bulbs, and at about $20 they won't break your bank account.

I'd like to replace the headlight in my Heritage also. But want to change the two running lights with it as well. Does anyone know the part numbers for the Siverstar replacement for the headlight and the running lights for an 01 FLSTC?

Thanks,

Rick

Even though the company won't tell you anywhere in their papers what ANY of the bulbs industry standard bulbs are the headlight is easy. All HD's seem to use the samestandard automotive9003 bulb (SilverStar number 9003ST).The turn signals are normal everyday 1157A or 3157A dual element bulbs or 1156A or 3156A for the single filiment bulbs.
But I can't find ANY numbers in the HD owners manual or parts manual for the Aux light bulbs.
Best bet would be to tatke one out and take it to the local auto parts store to have them identify it if it doesn't have an industry standard number on it. If I had to guess its probably one of the H-series bulbs, like H1, H2, H4, etc.

Good Luck, and please let me know if you figure out what the right number is, somebody else might like to know it too later.

Still no one ever buy a Harley dual bulb replacement. As I remember from my old 4-wheeler truck days a lot of guys used to buy those 100 watt headlight for their Jeeps. As long as they are such a standard bulb you would think they would work also. I wonder though if they weren't more of a flood than a directional bulb. They are only $25 too.

I have the dual bulb on my 07 fat boy. the lighting pattern is much better with the dual beam. the only issue is the bulbs they supply with them are low wattage. I upped the low beam to a low beam equavalent. had to modify the bulb plug so it would plug on. but the base fits no problem. Forget the bulb number but its the low beam equavalent. they put in a bulb that is typically used for FOG lights for the low beam. plus now the high beam shoots out in the middle of the road further out then then OEM lamp assembly. I would not say it is much brighter but its a much much better light pattern then the original lamp assembly.

This is what they should be shipping on all their new bikes.

I would do it over again for sure. I would also upgrade the bulbs that come with dual lamp headlamp. unfortunately the bulbs that come with the 2 bulb lens are not retofitable with a Silverstar bulb. They dont make one in a size that fits.

I guess for the price you can upgrade to a silverstar bulb and see if you like it first. then all you risk is the price of the bulb.

true Xenon HID bulbs would be a killer look on a harley but you need to mount a balast and the kit would be a few bills. the Bright White Xenon bulbs you see at the auto shops are halogen coated bulbs with a blue tint and a tiny shot of Xenon Gas... the tint actually cuts down the amount of light you get out. Its like any filter, its going to cut the amount of Lumens (measure of light) you get out.

the silverstar get better light out by way of design and better build. The other big mfg of bulbs have premium bulbs as well. all of which are better then the bright white Xenon bulbs. do a search on the net there are a few websites that educate you on those bulbs.
