Default Spark Plugs

How often do you change your plugs? Which ones are the best to use? Just started doing my own maint and want to change them out. What signs should I look for when they are starting to go South?

The original HD plugs in my FI bike lasted 6500 miles and got a miss. I replaced with the same with the same results. I replaced those with HD platinums. I rode those over 30k miles before swapping them. They were still running good.I just put in a new set to monitor how some engine mods were doing.

Not "exactly" on subject, but has anyone ever tried to index the plugs?
And while I doubt anyone could physically tell from the seat of the pants, did you notice any difference? Either in mileage or overall performance?

I always index mine. Not sure exactly how much of a cleaner burn you get but for the amount of money we spend on these engines I figured it's a pretty easyimprovement even if it's a small one.

Index????
Using washers so you can shim the plug to get the gap facing the intake....Pretty much a waste of time unless you are a drag racer chasing that elusive extra tenth of time.

I changed mine last night with about 18,000 on them. It had started missing and that was the first step before looking for other reasons. The front plug looked good, but the back one was fouled. The change seems to have taken care of the problem.

Regards,

Bill

HD platinum in the winter, standard HD plugs in the summer. The platinum plugs improve cold weather starting but will ping when the outside air temperature gets over 80*. I have 12,000 miles on the bike and havn't fouled a plug yet.
