I was riding my 05 Night Train the other day and about an hour and a half into the cruise, out of the blue, I noticed that the bike started coughing (breaking up) while doing about 50mph. When I slowed down for the next traffic light pulled in the clutch and let off the gas - stalled. Started right back up though and continued to run like garbage until I got home.
Today I took it back out and I had to do everything that could to keep it running fro the very short trip around the neighborhood. Even while rolling, if I let off the throttle I could tell that the only thing that was keeping the bike running was because I was rolling. Pull in clutch it would stall untill I ket the clutch out again.
This is my 1st fuel injected bike and only had it since Sept. I thought that I'd get away from this type of thing with the FI!!!
The bike is under extended waranty and will be fixed but I am wonder what could be going on here...
Any ideas or similar issues?
Thanks
My 1st thoughts are something got into the fuel filter or fouled plugs. After that just about anything is possible. Good luck and keep us informed in case it happens to any one of us in the future.
Sounds like bad gas. Been there, done that, have the ulcer to prove it. Go buy a red bottle of ISO Heet (or some other fuel injector cleaner/treatment) gas line anti-freeze or drain the tank if you can syphon it. Bad gas will make you think your bike is going belly up. If adding Heet and some fresh gas doesn't fix it, then worry about the FI system.

Thanks for the replies so far.
Funny thing is that I was thinking it was the gas and was on my way to fill the tank today when I thought I might not even make it! I haven't riden all that much and that is the same gas that has been in the tank since I bought the bike, but it is down to about 1/4 tank. I'll try the easy thing 1st and get Heet and fill the tank.
When I power up I can hear the fuel pump but no "spraying" sound.
I'll have to pay attention to the sig lights as well.
Dealer isn'tpicking the bike up until the end of the month(for storage too) so I have time to play if it's not raining or snowing!
I'll let you know for sure when it is all figured out.
thanks again
okay its not a jap bike , but in owning about 25 different bikes this thing happened too me....VAPOUR lock try under doing your fuel cap while rideing if your problem goes away your tank vent has a issue,, also when was the throttle body last cleaned, this will affect your return too idle.... if you remove your filter base you can turn up the idle my 2007 dyna has this screw but u must look for it..
