The prior owner of my Softail had it painted and I wanted to add the “Harley Davidson” back to the tank. I picked up a metal emblem for it but was wondering what would be the best adhesive to use.

In the past I had chrome side moldings on my trunk come lose.
After cleaning the surfaces with alcohol.
I used 3M Super Weatherstrip and Gasket Adhesive. The Super is black in color and fast drying. Use sparingly. If need to clean excessive adhesive around emblem.
I would use K1 Kerosene which has a light oil base that doesn't harm the finish. Also the K1 is good for removing road tar and cleaning oil base paint brushes which leaves a lite film to keep the britsles pliable.
To keep the emblem in place I would use the Blue painters tape.
Just a idea from Old School.
The red 3M VHB( Very high bond) tape is what the factory uses. Your local body shop will probably have a roll of it. If not there is a guy who sells lots of different sizes on ebay. I took my emblems to my local body guy he put the tape on the emblems and wouldn't take a dime from me. Went home marked my spots real good because you only get one chance with this stuff. Pull the red protective stuff off and stick it on. Works like a champ.
