my bike passed the cop test this week!
was riding out of the rail yard i work in, and on the overpass that goes directly over the yard, right through the middle of it, I can see the cops had a roadblock setup. I thought, maybe I should go the long way, avoid it, then, NO, lets see what happens!
I rode up the on ramp to the overpass, kept the RPM and throttle low, rolled up to the roadblock, and shut the engine off, the female officer comes up to me, I recognize her from a previous life I had, she is part of the traffic unit, I take a look around at the few other officers, also traffic unit, GREAT, if I am going to get a ticket for the pipes, these are the cops.
she asks me if i'm cold (it's 11pm) riding at night, I tell her I'm not sure, yada yada yada... she says have a good night, mentions nothing about the pipes, even though I am very confident they are well over the allowable noise limit, start the bike up, she is still standing right next to me, she jumps back a little, startled by the noise, I look back at her, give her a friendly smile, which she reciprocates, and off I went...
not going to try that downtown. different department, they already pulled me over and wrote me a ticket for loud pipes on my virago, which was MUCH quieter

most likely the motherly type. Theyz the best
I was thinking if I did the cam swap I would also spring for the SE billet cam support plate and high volume oil pump. http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...olume-oil-pump
seems to be a worthy upgrade to go with the cams. Anybody out there have thoughts on that part?
Andrews 57h cams, Johnson Hylift lifters, Cyco quikie pushrods, FLO filter (Like the K&P one), torrington bearings and Redline 2050 oil
Cool, looking forward to the progress and install posts. Brave man, I think I could do this job also but am a little scared. Your lack of fear is inspiring.

Install is not hard - it is just time consuming so budget a day if you've done any type of cam swap or motor work before, and a weekend if you've never done more than basic maintenance / lights / mirrors etc. If you have a service manual, the S&S video, and the right tools then it's a step by step process. some things can be a slight bitch for the uninitiated like getting the pushrod tube covers back into place. there's a trick to it if you don't have the special tool.
the billet cam plate and oil pump- well there is no downside to getting it, that is for sure. but do you really need it for a mild cam upgrade? no.
Cam install went smooth- just fired her up and let idle for a bit, checked oil level hot, listen for noises, look for leaks, watch gauges on PV for temps, afr, map etc. All so far so good- nice lopey idle but a tad erratic. I am running a tune Jamie at FM sent me to start- I have to do an AT session tomorrow and dial it in.

Yeah having the special tools seems to be the big issue. Might be worth investing in them as these cam changes would be the same for many models and for lots of years I'm sure. The cam plate I'm sure is not necessary but would be nice to do while its all apart. The oil pump part seems like a worthy upgrade in itself. Pricey but those durability, quality and future proof upgrades are always good to do, if planning on keeping the bike.
Nostradamus74 an I went through this consideration (cam plate and/or oil pump) before we did our SE204 install. After quite some discussions and research we went with the upgraded oil pump as it is a worthy upgrade in all means. We kept the stock cam plate, tho, not seeing a real significant benefit in upgrading this pricey item. Works fine so far....
